Hazlehead Academy encourages the wearing of school uniform by all pupils. Uniform creates a feeling of belonging and provides pupils with an opportunity to identify with Hazlehead Academy. It is smart and economical and creates a purposeful image.
The traditional Hazlehead Academy school colours are green and navy/black.
S1-S3 Pupils
Black or dark grey school skirt, school trousers, or school shorts*. (Leggings without a skirt are not considered appropriate school uniform.)
Appropriate footwear, i.e. shoes or trainers.
White polo shirt or shirt.
School sweatshirt with badge.
S4-S6 Pupils
Black or dark grey school skirt, school trousers, or school shorts*.
Appropriate footwear, i.e. shoes or trainers.
White shirt.
School tie. (Guidance Teachers will issue these to S4 pupils.)
Green blazer with school badge. (Note: a black jumper is not a replacement for a blazer.)
*The school shorts referred to are smart shorts that can be worn as part of our uniform. Much like the ones many will have worn when they were in Primary School. Sports shorts, regardless of whether they are plain black or dark grey, are not appropriate.
The following items should NOT be worn to school:
Denim jacket or jeans (of any colour)
Tracksuit trousers / joggers
Any clothing with offensive messages
Any garment promoting the drug culture
Leggings unless worn with a skirt
PE hoodies
S1-S6 pupils
PE sports top (optional), navy or black shorts, tracksuit trousers, leggings, change of trainers (non-marking soles). However, if pupils do not wear the official PE top, they should wear a plain tshirt for PE in school colours (White / Navy / Green).
Every pupil should always have a complete change of appropriate kit for every PE lesson. If your child is fit enough to attend school but is suffering from a short term injury/ailment, they will still be required to bring PE kit and parents will be expected to provide a note of explanation. The pupil should change as normal and then hand the note of explanation to their teacher.
Long term non-participation in PE, ie longer than two weeks, will require medical confirmation with a note from home. Valuables should be handed into PE staff each lesson to ensure safe keeping.
Please note that the PE hoodie is optional but should not be worn as school uniform instead of the school sweatshirt.
N.B. All jewellery must be removed prior to participating in PE.
