Hazlehead Academy encourages the wearing of school uniform by all pupils. Uniform creates a feeling of belonging and provides pupils with an opportunity to identify with Hazlehead Academy. It is smart and economical and creates a purposeful image.
The traditional Hazlehead Academy school colours are green and navy/black.
S1-S3 Pupils
Black or dark grey school skirt, school trousers, or school shorts*. (Leggings without a skirt are not considered appropriate school uniform.)
Appropriate footwear, i.e. shoes or trainers.
White polo shirt or shirt.
School sweatshirt with badge.
S4-S6 Pupils
Black or dark grey school skirt, school trousers, or school shorts*.
Appropriate footwear, i.e. shoes or trainers.
White shirt.
School tie. (Guidance Teachers will issue these to S4 pupils.)
Green blazer with school badge. (Note: a black jumper is not a replacement for a blazer.)
*The school shorts referred to are smart shorts that can be worn as part of our uniform. Much like the ones many will have worn when they were in Primary School. Sports shorts, regardless of whether they are plain black or dark grey, are not appropriate.
The following items should NOT be worn to school:
Denim jacket or jeans (of any colour)
Tracksuit trousers / joggers
Cargo trousers or cargo shorts
Any clothing with offensive messages
Any garment promoting the drug culture
Leggings unless worn with a skirt
PE hoodies
S1 -S6 PE Kit
To ensure that all pupils can participate safely, comfortably and successfully in Physical Education, we ask that all pupils bring a complete change of clothing and footwear to each PE lesson, rather than wearing what they wear to classes.
This includes:
A plain t-shirt or sports top (football tops are not permitted)
Shorts, tracksuit bottoms or leggings suitable for physical activity
Trainers that are secure and appropriate for exercise
For Outdoor Activities
As many PE lessons take place outdoors throughout the year, pupils should also consider bringing:
A waterproof jacket
Additional warm layers (e.g. sweatshirt, hoodie or sports top)
Suitable outdoor footwear where required
A change of socks
Jewellery
All jewellery must be removed or appropriately taped before taking part in PE.
Injuries and Medical Notes
If a pupil is unable to participate in Physical Education due to injury or a medical reason, a note should be provided from home, or a parent/carer should contact the school office before the start of the school day (8:30am).
Where possible, pupils should still bring their PE kit and attend the lesson. Alternative learning activities can often be provided, allowing pupils to remain involved in discussions, observation tasks and other aspects of the learning taking place.
