We said farewell to our P7s in assembly this morning and handed out their 'Nemo' themed yearbooks which have been a long term project for our yearbook team this year. It was lovely to share photos, old and new and to celebrate each member of the yeargroup as an individual.
Assembly finished aptly with us singing a slightly revised version of the school song, introduced by children in the P7 year group this session.
We are Ashley Road Primary School
The teachers are kind and the kids are cool
Seaton, Westburn, Hazlehead and Duthie
We use our voices, we have autonomy
You were Ashley Road Primary School
Your time here is done so say goodbye.
Things are going to feel quiet around here as our largest year group of nearly 100 pupils move on to their next adventure. As ever the 'hockey stick honour guard' was ready to see them out for the last time. An emotional day, a next step they are very much ready for.
'You so totally rock'
A cheer could be heard across Aberdeen today as Seaton were announced as the first 'House Cup' winners of Ashley Road. One of the House Team Leader promises this year which has had an enormous impact, the team reintroduced and reimagined the house point system. Based on our school values, the children have been earning points across everything they do in school, and through a range of house based challenges. These events have really helped to form a strong team spirit and comradery within each of the houses like we haven't seen before.
To make this end of year announcement extra special the winning house was revealed with coloured smoke and green meant go for Seaton as the winners. A big well done to the House Team Leaders for their work on this project, and the children who have been reflecting our school values so well this year to earn points!
Keep track of how many points each house has earned. Points are awarded based on the schools values ' Curious, aspiring, resilient minds and kind, respectful, inclusive hearts'.
Another wet day in the playground, but this time not because of the Scottish weather! P7s water fight went with a scream and a splash as the children took part in a range of water based activities which eventually descended into a chaos!
Once again, the idea of 'revenge' for canoeing events at Dalguise seemed to be top of many minds and the teachers certainly took a good soaking as a result. One of our favourite events of the school year. Now to dry off...
Awesome shows this week put on by our three amazing P7 classes. The acting, singing, staging, props and costuming were all out of this ocean and the teamwork going on behind the scenes to make it all happen was admirable.
A huge thanks to the teachers, parents and children who put in so much work to make these productions such a success!
A week of farewells at Ashley Road as we say goodbye not just to our P7s but to Mrs Strang and Mrs Walker who have worked at Ashley Road for 25/26 years! They have had a huge impact on our school and the community over that time and have offered so much through their creative talents and passion for the role. We sang some songs to reflect our thanks in our traditional 'well gathering'. Hearing the voices of 460 children in this space always sparks emotion. We wish Mrs Strang and Mrs Walker a very well deserved, relaxed retirement!
To end the school year we were offered a visit from the Scottish Cup that Aberdeen FC won in May. It had been 35 years since the last time the Cup was won by Aberdeen. All the children in P3-7 came down to get a large Ashley Road group photo with the cup. A great end to the year!
A big thank you to the PTA who once again funded ice-creams for the whole school to enjoy, rounding off the year in style. This has become a very popular end-of-year tradition and the sun even made a (very brief) appearance!
The P7s were given a reprieve on this one, given the enormous amount of prep work they had to do for their P7 show. Across the rest of the school, classes have been busy working on pieces of writing as part of our third and final whole school writing engagement for the year - this time based around the theme of sustainability. We were spoiled for choice when trying to select winners, given the wide range of genres, including convincing letters written to MSPs and well informed discursive essays. Winners were awarded across each year group, with Eden P6 the overall winner.
Our 'Reading for Enjoyment' Pupil Leadership Group have been busy running a 'Booktopia' reading competition this term, with a fabulous range of book covers designed across all age groups. Three winners were selected, each receiving a large number of points for their House Teams, with Harris in P6 taking the overall prize and Julia (P6) and Elysha (P7) in 2nd and 3rd place. There were so many impressive entries that a number of children also awarded 'special effort' points. Well done everyone!
Last Thursday we had the annual Teachers Vs P7 Pupils Netball Match. We had a group of 7 teachers and SLT who braved the mighty Pupils. This year it was a lot closer and it ended up in a draw after the four games. The Teachers will definitely need to up their game skills next year. There was also fair amount of rule breaking by the teachers! Thanks goes to Mrs Nicolson for all her hard work with the girls who have had a great year of Netball. We hope the girls continue to develop their skills as they move into S1.
Approx. 40, P4 to P7 children have joined the hockey leaders each week on Mondays at Rubislaw to play hockey. The sessions are a combination of skill forming practices and fun matches. The hockey leaders said goodbye to our P7s at their final session recently. The P7s have led training the last couple of weeks, showing some great leadership skills and lots of expert knowledge in the game.
The teams have also attended 12 Sunday morning tournaments over the year (6 for under 12s and 6 for under 10s) where the children are able to put their skills into practice against other teams from the district. The festivals are always a lot of fun and it's great seeing the children grow in confidence.
They have also welcomed some children from Mile End Primary to the training since the easter holidays and enjoyed making new friends.
Training will continue on a Monday after the summer holidays and 'Team Hockey' look forward to meeting the new P4 players.
A huge thanks to the hockey leaders who give up lots of time (and energy) to provide these awesome opportunities for AR pupils!
Some of our children entered the Aberdeen Ship Drawing Competition linked to the Tall Ships coming to Aberdeen later this month. Amalia in P2 was lucky enough to come 2nd in the competition which was open to all pupils in Aberdeen City Schools! Well done Amalia. She won a bag full of goodies which included a teddy bear, a book on how to draw see animals, a gift voucher for Hobbycraft and a pass to visit the Monsters of the Deep exhibition. Amalia was delighted!
Please see information below regarding class/teacher allocation for next session. Children have been informed of their new teacher/room at the end of the day today (Monday). Our new P1 pupils met their teachers on Tuesday last week at the P1 Fun Morning and all other classes will have a 'meet the teacher' session with their new teacher in their new room on Wednesday the 25th of June at 1:30pm. Please try avoid any appointments at this time. The staff are excited to get to know their new classes and start planning for the new year!
P7 parents are invited to attend performances of their child's class version of 'Finding Nemo' next week. There should be space for two people per family. We will also make sure siblings have the opportunity to see the shows. The singing sounds amazing and the costumes/set pieces look awesome so we have no doubt you will enjoy the show! We look forward to seeing you there!
P7Rm1 - Tuesday 1st July 1:50 pm
P7Rm11- Wednesday 2nd July 9:30 am
P7Rm12 -Wednesday 2nd July 1:50 pm
It has been a buzzing busy few weeks with visits/trips and performances galore as children have shared their learning and talents through parental engagement visits to classes, visits out into the community and thoroughly dramatic performances. It has been lovely to see so many families come along to support these events and engage with the children through these learning opportunities.
Across this school year, staff have been working hard to review and refresh aspects of how we teach reading, including different aspects such as sight words, expanding vocabulary and using comprehension strategies to help us understand what we read. Part of this work has also been on updating the novel sets which classes access from P3-7, to allow them to explore, analyse and enjoy books within their reading groups. The novel sets have now been set out on shelving around the GP room in more of a 'library' style, enabling children to be more active in seleting texts which motivate them and their groups. Lots of exciting new titles which will hopefully bring a reading buzz next session. We will share our new policy and approaches with families in the new term.
Well done to our P7 netball teams who played in the Rosebowl Netball Competition on Sunday. 24 teams took part across 6 courts and both our teams showed great communication, resilience and determination.
Well done to the Ashley Road Allstars team who in the final, battled it out in extra time to win the silver league!
Also, well done to our P5/6 team who recently had a friendly match against Hazlehead Primary which was great fun for all the children involved. A big thanks to Sport Aberdeen who set up the match.
Finally a massive thanks to Helen Lund (Edith Lund’s mum). Helen has volunteered to coach netball to Ashley Road Primary for 6 years and has made the decision to retire. We really appreciate the time she has given to Ashley Road pupils to enable them to have fabulous sporting achievements and opportunities.
A lovely idea shared by another of our Pupil Leadership Groups last week at assembly, they have decided to create a 'Kindness Book', based on one of our school values. This book is a place to share kind thoughts about others or to thank others for kind behaviours. It has been lovely to see so many children queueing today to leave a comment or two. Kindness really is all around.
It was most impressive to see the children from our 'Questioning' Pupil Leadership Group pulled together enough courage to come along to a staff meeting to share their views on the questioning approaches staff have been trialling this session. It was great to hear from the perspective of the children and they gave staff some handy hints and tips on how to make these strategies even more effective!
Following our recent pairing with our very own tall ship, the 'Pascual Flores' from Spain, some of our Spanish speaking Ashley Roaders came together to send a message to Captain Juan and the rest of the crew. Perhaps you can work out what they are saying in their message? They also shared some of the tall ship-themed learning that has been happening around the school and posed a few questions to Captain Juan. We look forward to a return message!
This week, members from the Montgomery Centre came to present the physical Anne Frank Award to Primary 6 and the Learning for Sustainability group. As previously shared, the award recognises young people who have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equality and human rights in their communities, and is another reflection of the ongoing work linked to UNCRC being embedded across the school.
Our House Team leaders have been put through their paces again, organising another large scale event, from scratch, with very little adult input. This time around it was a House Quiz! they made up three different quizzes to suit the needs of the different year groups and learned a lot about the logistics of oragnising a large group of children but did so with resilience and confidence! Lots of fun for us all, and some questions which had even the teachers scratching their heads!
Well done all!
We were delighted to have Bob, our School Crossing Patroller who has recently retired, come back to visit us this week for a gathering in the library area to say a big thanks for all his years of service to the community at Ashley Road. Children had written poems, made clay sculptures and sang songs. Reps from the PTA also came along to share thanks from the parent body.
Bob was clearly delighted to see how much he was appreciated and it was a fitting end to his work with the school, after it turns out he also went to Ashley Road as a pupil!
Wishing you the best in your retirement Bob!
The 'healthy eating' pupil leadership group would like to inform famiies that next week they will be holding a fruit and veg tuck shop staff for P4-7 pupils, to promote healthy food choices. They are planning to run the stall at break times, for the following year groups.

Aberdeen Reads Summer Challenge (Reading challenge)
Open to everyone in the city, this year’s Aberdeen Reads Challenge will see Library Bear (LB) sail across the seas. This year, we are aiming to beat our total of 2800 books read across the city as part of last year’s challenge. For every book or challenge logged, Library Bear will travel 10 nautical miles – trying to travel 30,000 (3,000 books) nautical miles and visits lots of fictional islands. Get reading and Library Bear may visit your favourite book islands.
Young people aged 4-15yrs will be able to earn rewards throughout the summer for reading books and completing challenges. A challenge card can be collected from any city library, with online cards available from the Aberdeen Reads website. Young people will be able to collect up to two stamps for every visit to their nearest library.
This year, all participants will also receive a certificate.
Keep reading over the Summer and enjoy Library Bear’s adventures on the seas!
Water Safety & the RNLI
The RNLI will be visiting all the city’s libraries during July to promote water safety and to share the work of the charity. The visits will be interactive, and we have heard that water and safety suits might make an appearance!
There will be sessions for all ages – session for 5-7yrs, 8-11yrs & 12-15yrs. To book your youngster’s space at one of the sessions, head to the Library Events webpages.
Hebocon
Thanks to funding from the Public Library Improvement Fund, Aberdeen City Libraries will be hosting its inaugural Hebocon – a Japanese idea to encourage people to build the world’s best worst robot! Young people can come along and build their own robot using old toys – think Sid from ‘Toy Story’. No building experience or knowledge of robots is required to get involved in the Hebocon!
You’ll also have an opportunity to find out a bit more about the robotics and coding programmes the libraries are working on.
To book your space and find out more about the Hebocon go to https://bit.ly/heboconacl
Pond Dipping with Duthie Park Rangers
Join the Rangers at Duthie Park on the 16 July for two pond dipping sessions to support our water-themed reading challenge. Find out what little minibeasts and creatures live in the pond at Duthie Park. This is a double header of a session – 40mins pond dipping and 40 mins doing a game/craft.
Spaces are limited to 12 for each session. Parents/carers will need to sign a permission form for their youngster. You can book a place at Library Events
Rockpooling with Countryside Rangers
We are delighted to have Jack from the Countryside Rangers join us at Central Library for a fascinating talk about rockpooling on 11 August. If you’d like to know more about the beasties that live in rockpools, this is the event for you! Another interactive session for young people. Further information can be found at Library Events.
Craft, Coding, LEGO and more @ ACL
We are not finished yet! Libraries across the city will be hosting craft and story times, LEGO clubs and coding workshops throughout the summer. Some sessions are drop-in and don’t require booking. Head to Library Events or look out for poster/social media posts to find out what’s going on in your nearest city library.
Join Aberdeen City Libraries for a summer of fun!

The PTA would like to send a massive thank you again to everyone that helped make our Summer Fair 2025 a success! We couldn’t do it without all the donations, volunteers and families that came along and enjoyed the day!
We made an amazing £7,775 which will go towards enhancing the school experience for all the pupils at Ashley Road School.
We had a few last minute changes to the plan as the Newfoundland therapy dogs couldn’t make it and unfortunately we were unable to have the Wipeout and Slushies but hope we can bring these attractions to future events instead.
A special thank you to:
The Senior Management Team for once again agreeing to be soaked 💦
Sengul and her team who provided us with amazing Turkish food 🌎🥘
Herd’s the Butchers on Rosemount Place for giving us a brilliant deal again on our BBQ meat 🍔🌭 www.herdbutchers.co.uk

This week we had the Active Schools Bike Roadshow visit Ashley Road with a selection of different types of bikes. The P5 and P6 classes got to try out the selection of bikes and show off their skills! The weather stayed dry and all the children enjoyed having a turn on all the different types of bikes. Children found that some of the styles were good for going very fast!
Niki Paterson who is an Education Support Officer for Health and Wellbeing/Parental Engagement will be running a session with the EP service on Supporting Attendance on Tuesday 24th June at 7pm.
This session will focus on supporting parents whose children are worried about going to school, beginning to show distress around attending school, or experiencing significant challenges with attending school.
Please sign up by at ACCLearnGuest . You will need to create a login, if you do not have one already. Please then browse courses for Stronger Families Series: Supporting Attendance.
We had our Summer Fair last Saturday and what a great day it turned out to be. A huge thanks to the PTA for all their hard work organising the day which takes months in advance to plan. They had some exciting new changes this year that went down well with all. A big thanks also goes to all the families that attended the fair this year as well as our GLEE choir who sang first to open the fair. We are still awaiting the grand total for what was raised but it looks to be a great amount which will support the school with future developments and resources. Once again the most quoted 'stand out activity' was the 'Splat The Teacher' game.
Our planting pupil leadership group have been busy today literally planting up, creating a vertical garden on the ELC fences. We look forward to seeing if their efforts to innovate a new approach to bringing greenery to the playground pay off. They have planted seeds so we hope to see some lovely flowers in full bloom by the time we reuturn after the summer break!
A huge well done to all the children who performed in the Big Sing at Duthie Park this week. We had brilliant P4 singers and P6/7 woodwind players who performed to an audience of thousands! In total over 160 pupils went along to the event to share their talents and enjoy a lovely musical morning in the park. A big thanks to Miss Dow who leads on Project Woodwind at Ashley Road and to the team at Aberdeen City Music Service who have partnered with us so openly to provide such amazing opportunities for our pupils!
We have had confirmeation that we will be able to continue the model into next year, so our current P5s will have the universal offer of woodwind tuituon for the year and our P6s will have the opportunity to continue their woodwind journey in an after school band in P7.
We had a great ELC Sports Day on Monday afternoon. Lots of families came to watch the potted sports in the playground followed by the flat race in the hall. It did rain briefly but all the children showed resilience to keep going and all enjoyed taking part. It was great to see the children having so much fun!
End of year school reports have gone home to families in school bags today (30th May). Please have a look over the attached guidance to ensure you understand all aspects of the report. If you are unsure, feel free to get in touch and we can talk things through with you. The final, optional parent meeting will be held on Tuesday the 10th of June. These appointments are 5 minutes and should only be booked if there are specific questions you would like to ask regarding the school report. Booking will be available from 12pm on Monday the 2nd of June and will be via ParentBooking.co.uk as usual.
Well done to the winners of the Team Jak drawing competition. They were delighted to recieve their prizes in assemblies this week. Big thanks to Team Jak for provding the goodie bags, and to TJ who came along to the summer fair!
A great Sports Day again this year, despite the downpour right in the middle of the races! A big thanks to all the helpers who came along to facilitate. Without your support we wouldn't be able to run these events each year.
An extra well done to Hazlehead who won the day this year, after many years without a victory!
The relay is always an amazing way to finish sports day, the competition heats up and the tension builds. Have a at this clip to see if you can keep track of the super speedy runners!
A busy week next week, as on Wednesday all of our P4s, our P6s and our P7 woodwind band 'Ashley Notes' will be attending the 'Big Sing' in Duthie Park to sing and perform with other children from schools across Aberdeen City. This year the event is bigger than ever and we are delighted to have so many pupils participating and showing off the talents they put such hard work into! Come along and cheer them on. Bring a waterproof jacket.... just in case.
As part of the build up to the Tall Ships festival this summer, schools have been matched up to a ship, to build a bit of buzz and competition around the race. We also have the opportunity to get in touch and communicate with the crew during their journey. Here is our first email from Captain Juan!
Dear Ashley Road,
Thank you very much for your message.
We are very happy to be part of this activity and to be linked with your school. It is great to hear that the children are already learning about the Tall Ships and even building their own ships in the classroom — that sounds amazing!
We like the idea of sending a short video or some photos to introduce our crew and our ship. We will prepare something soon and send it to you. We also look forward to learning more about your school and the children.
We are excited to share this experience with you and hope the students enjoy it as much as we do.
Best regards,
Juan J. Capó
Captain Pascual and the crew
We are looking forward to creating a video to share, and hope they might send one back!
A huge thanks to the PTA for their support in funding the next big project in continuing to improve the playground for the pupils/community. The children were a bit excited, to say the least when we shared in assembly this week that this 'Ituri' climbing frame will be installed in the school playground during the first weeks of the school holidays this year. It has taken a great deal of work to get all the approvals in place for this, but the children assure us it will be worth it! Our current P7s have an open invitation to visit during the summer and have a go once it is in place!
Our 'Arts' pupil leadership group led a competition recently for World Art Day and were delighted with the standard of the artwork entered. The skills on show are absolutely unbelievable and there were audible gasps in assembly when we share the first second and third place entries (below) who have each won points for their house. The range of skills within our school community never ceases to amaze us!
IN THIRD PLACE IS MORGAN IN PRIMARY 5 WINNING 25 HOUSE POINTS FOR SEATON
IN SECOND IN AMAYA IN PRIMARY 6 WINNING 50 HOUSE POINTS FOR SEATON
IN FIRST IS MILA IN PRIMARY 7 WINNING 100 HOUSE POINTS FOR WESTBURN
Excitement is building for sports day next Tuesday, but we also have a few other sporting activities during the week thanks to our House Team Leaders. The team are bringing back the 'Runathon' on Thursday next week, where children will win a house point for each lap of the school playground. We will also be holding our first ever Ping Pong Tournament for P4-7 over lunchtimes, thanks to Harris, who will be overseeing the event. Another opportunity for some good natured competition and fun!
Be ready with hair coiffed and uniform ironed for Class Photo Day on Wednesday the 4th of June!
Everyone in the school is looking forward to the upcoming school Fair. This takes place on Saturday 24th May 11am-1.30pm. There are lots of funs things planned this year. Have a look at the layout map to see some of the activites on the day.
Last term the ELC received a visit from the City Locality Lead. This was an opportunity for them to see what was going on in the ELC and to look at feeding back areas to develop. As always it was an opportunity for Mr Rae and Mrs Beedie to share developments over the session and to showcase the excellent work that has been done by the ELC team to support the children in the setting and the children's own achievements and skills. As part of the visit the Quality Assurance ebook is updated to reflect the visits. Have a read to see what was said!
When is Walk to School Week?
Walk to School Week takes place from Monday, May 19th to Friday, May 23rd, 2025. Schools across the UK are encouraged to participate during this week.
What is Walk to School Week?
Walk to School Week is a five-day challenge designed to inspire primary school pupils to incorporate more physical activity into their daily routines. At Ashley Road, this will be a whole school house challenge, with the opportunity for children to win house points each day that they take an active travel option.
What is considered active travel? We encourage all forms of active travel, including walking, wheeling, cycling, and scooting. If you live too far away from school to walk/scoot/cycle all the way, then 'park and stride', park just a little further away from school and walk the final stretch.
We hope this lovely weather stays to help us all take active travel options. Parents/carers the children depend on you to help them take up the challenge. Lets see if we can help the environment and our health by putting down the car keys and getting our 'stride on'.
Both P6 classes enjoyed visiting the Duthie Park this week to participate in two workshops exploring plant life. They conducted experiments, solved riddles and investigated how plants store energy.
This week saw Ashley Road compete at the Regional Final of the Glee competition at Aberdeen Music Hall. Having triumphed in Round 1, our 40-strong Glee Club again put in a fantastic performance during both their songs, showing off particularly impressive harmonies. The standard of all the choirs was incredible and, whilst Ashley Road did not progress to the finals, they received wonderful feedback from the judges and once again did us proud. Well done AR Glee 2025!
A big thanks again to the staff who make this possible with their ongoing hard work and dedication.
Watch this space for a performance of Glee's newest song in full!
Next week, the other half of our P4-7s will be asked to rank the pupil leadership group themes they are interested in driving forward, before being matched up with their small working group and a teacher to facilitate. We love seeing the creative ideas they come up with. Many of the things you see around school/routines and initiatives that have become part of 'Ashley Road' came from these groups and have a lasting legacy.
The date for our P1-7 school Sports Day is now Tuesday the 27th of May and will take place in front of the pavilion on Rubislaw Playing Fields. If you have not yet, please complete the new form which was sent out to families today (Friday 16th) to indicate which option you will take for school pick up and if you can help on the day.
Our hardworking members of the PTA have been busy creating themed hampers for each of our school Houses, to be raffled at the upcoming school fair. To be in with a chance of winning, you can purchase tickets for £2 per hamper after school next Wednesday & Friday from 3-3.30pm in the playground or on the day of the fair itself.
As an extra incentive, House Points will be awarded according to which hampers sell the most tickets. 40 house points are available for the winning house, 30 for the second house and so on.
'Pre-paid' cards which can be used at the fair will also be available to purchase at these times.
This week is the final week of pupil leadership groups for Block 1, in which half of all pupils P4-7 have taken part in small leadership groups, driving pupil led improvements and initiatives for our school/community. Have a glance at the groups slides below to see what they have been up to! Some groups are just rounding up their records.
We look forward to Block 2 starting in a few weeks time, when the other half of the pupils will have their opportunity to bring their ideas to action.
This year Mrs Tosh has also been running 'training sessions' with P3 pupils at these times, in small groups to build up their leadership capacity ahead of them stepping into these groups next session. They are building this model in collaboration with the ELC and it has been great for both our P3s and the nursery children alike!
A big thanks to Mrs Duthie and the Fundraising team who held 'Dream Day' today in aid of 'Team Jak'! We had butchers, bakers, candlestick makers and of course gamers in school today, showing what their hopes are for the future! A big thanks to Team Jak who have provided prize goody bags for the winners of the TJ drawing competition. We look forward to presenting these at assembly next week once the PLG has had a chance to judge! The group managed to raise a grand total of over £350! A big thanks to everyone who was able to contribute.
The internet, social media, video sharing platforms, and instant messaging apps hold a great attraction for children and can, if used safely, be of great social and educational benefit. Unfortunately, these resources can also create a less-than positive environment where children, through no fault of their own, may find themselves at risk. This guide aims to provide advice to parents, grandparents, carers, guardians, siblings, and children themselves, highlighting key things to look out for to stay safe online.
Heads up to P7 families - the 'Last Class' supplements with the P7 classes in their final year of primary school will be published next week in the Press and Journal. For Ashley Road, our photos will be in the Tuesday edition. Please note, the newspapers are unfortunately unable to offer the purchase of digital photos to parents this year.
Primary 1 are the first year group to start exploring our Tall Ships 'Treasure Box', full of nautical themed books and resources to help us get into the festival spirit ahead of the Tall Ships arriving in July. The children have thoroughly enjoyed digging into the resources and have been so inspired that they have created their very own tall ship in the classroom, complete with a mast, sails, British flag, route map, compass and telescope.
They are feeling confident that their ship will fare very well in the race!

The PTA
We were delighted to have a special visitor in assembly this week to remind children about our 'Dream Day' fundraiser next week. TJ the dog came along to say 'hi' and a big 'thanks in advance' for the efforts of our Charities Pupil Leadership group who have chosen to raise money for a local charity 'Team Jak'. Team Jak provide support for children and young people with cancer, their family, friends and those bereaved, and for families dealing with cancer. The children were delighted to see TJ, and to be helping such a worthy cause.
The PTA Easter Trail raised a total of £140. Lots of families took part in the event over the Easter holidays and some of the designs are still on show!
The Tall Ships Aberdeen 2025 Races present an exciting opportunity for primary school pupils to learn about maritime history, navigation, and the cultural significance of Tall Ships. Every school across ACC has revieved a 'learning pack' designed to provide teachers and pupils with a range of themed activities which we look forward to exporing with the children this term! The pack includes various activities, an Adopt a Ship programme and competitions.
As ever we have made a bit of a 'House Challenge' out of the races. In assembly this week, all the ships competing were split amongst the houses and and we will keep track of who wins at each point during the race. Those ships in first second and third positions will earn points for the house who selected them, meaning we will start in the new year with points (hopefully) won for each house. We hope this encourages the children to engage with the range of activities which will be available during the tall ships festival this summer!
See below which ships have been adopted by which houses!

As part of our ongoing focus on 'Learning For Sustainability', last week in school was 'Climate Week', with a focus in each class on Eco, Rights and Global Goal themes. Have a glance at the slides to see the ideas and planning that were shared with classes and flip through the Ebook below to see what classes got up to! The children always enjoy working on tasks which support their local environment and demonstrate a fantastic awareness of how to be climate conscious.
We are the fundraising pupil group and we are going to be fundraising for the charity “Team Jak”. On Friday 9th May we will be holding a Dream Day. We invite you to dress up as your dream job, aspiration or simply the best dream you ever had! Eg.The dream to be able to run a marathon one day, could wear sports clothes. If you can, please bring a donation for our fundraising efforts.
Additionally there will also be a competition to draw Team Jak’s mascot with house points up for grabs on the day!
Team Jak is a local charity that supports families with children who are struggling with cancer. They offer many ways of support such as: emotional, social, practical, music therapy and family support groups. Our funds will allow them to continue this vital work. For more information please see their website
We are sorry to share that our wonderful School Crossing Patroller, Bob has decided to retire so will not be returning to work. Bob has been a much loved member of our school community for a number of years and we are very sad to see him go. We appreciate the support he has provided keeping the children same on their journey to and from school. Some of our classes are currently working on some tokens of appreciation and we hope to invite Bob back to school to receive these.
It is Aberdeen City Council policy that once vacant, School Crossing Patroller posts will not be readvertised, so there will no longer be a Crossing Patroller on Ashley Road. We would encourage families to plan their journey to and from school with this in mind.
We mentioned last term that we would be setting up an onlune form to support families to provide timely feedback to the ACC catering team when issues with lunches arise. This has been added as a tab at the top of the school website and will be available via the school website under the 'Parents' tab.
Please use this form to provide feedback on the day if you are made aware of any issues regarding:
The quality of the food provided
The quantity of food provided
Missing menu items
Any responses will be shared with the catering team on a weekly basis.
We hope this approach is able to help support a sustained improvement in the school lunch provision at Ashely Road.
