Policy for Administration of Medication

Medication Policy update

We have recently reviewed  our medication procedures/policy.  As part of the work we reviewed existing practices and found that some of the senior pupils who should have been carrying their own inhalers, did not have them with them in school or they were not accessible should they have been needed in an emergency.   Although we would like to support children to take responsibility of their own medication, we have decided that the risk is too high that an individual may misplace their inhaler (in a large busy school environment), resulting in not having the required medication in an emergency situation.   Resultantly the option for pupils to carry inhalers has been removed from the medication policy.  Medications are stored in the main school office so are easily accessible and are nearby to the gym hall/playground where children are most likely to engage in strenuous activities.

Some key reminders regarding the medication procedure:

Skills On Show!

P1 Playful Learning

We have recently purchased a range of new open ended equipment for playful learning in P1.  We have been upleveling skills across the teaching/PSA team in how to get the most out of the playful learning interactions and have been mightily impressed by the skill development that has been on show!  From poison potions (exploring volume, using literacy skills), to Kapla creations (using construction skills, building spatial awareness, developing resilience) the learning has been of a really high level and the children have had a great time too!

New Charters

Created By Our P7 Improvement Squad

This session we have been reviewing the 'charters' which we use in school to help everyone to remember the actions which duty bearers (the grown up people) and the rights holders (the children) have in ensuring that rights are alive and well across our school.  The improvement Squad were given with the challenging  tasks of , identifying the appropriate rights, actions and coming up with a design which connects with our school.  Each class creates their own charter at the beginning of the school year, so the Squad decided to create three charters, which cover some of the shared spaces within school.

They decided to use the schools 'values' character to illustrate the different rights/actions in each of these areas and we are delighted with the result.  We shared the new charters in assembly today, with adults describing the actions they will as duty bears and Squad members explaining the actions they will... to respect their rights and the rights of others.   You will soon see these displayed in appropriate places around the school.   If you want to have a closer look at the text, a 'zoomed in' version is available HERE.

Travelling Book Fair

We had the Travelling Book Fair with us this week which was open during Parent Appointments on Tuesday and Thursday evening. A big thank you to all our P6/P7 pupil helpers and the parents and PSAs who came to help sell books.

A big thank you goes to all the parents who purchased some new books for reading at home. There was a super selection this time and lots of very excited faces on the pupils when they got their books!

The total amount spent at the book fair this year was £667.14! As a result the school gets commision to spend on new books. The picture to the left shows all the new books we will be adding to the school library very soon.

Thank you again for your support. We have also got some donations handed in as well of some great books so the library will definitley be stocked up with new titles.

P1 Open Morning

A big thanks to all the families who made it along to the P1 open morning today.  The children had an awesome time showing their families how their 'playful learning' works and we hope it was evident the massive range of skills that children develop through this approach.  We have recently invested in a whole range of new open ended play resources and carried out CPD within our staff team regarding how to get the most our of every play experience and we are delighted to see the impact this is having on the high quality play experiences which the children are engaging with.

New Religious And Moral Education Approach Finalised

Exploring Worldviews

All classes will explore this block of work WB 11th March until the end of term

Following a great deal of work, consultation with families children and staff we have finalised a new approach and policy regarding Religious and Moral Education at Ashley Road.   We are delighted to have been able to develop a refreshed, up to date approach which absolutley refects and values the range of views which exist within our school community.    This week we carried out CPD for all teaching staff during our Inservice days and plan for the first whole school 'Worldview' block to be during the final three weeks of this term, between the 11th and 25th of March.  To ensure that families have a clear view of all the messages and materials which will be explored as part of this work, the overview and resources are shared on the school website under 'Curriculum' and are attached here.  We would encourage families to review these materials and get in touch if they wish to discuss anything in advance of thew work taking place.

Junior Reps - Could it be you?

This session  we have expanded the number of pupil leadership opportunities available for our P7 pupils by introducing the 'improvement Squad' who operate alongside the 'House Team Leaders' on different themes.  This group focuses on leading improvements/changes across school, but currently they only represent the views of the P7 year group.  In an effort to ensure they are hearing and acting upon the ideas of children across all ages/stages in school, the improvement squad are now looking for volunteers from each P1-6 class to become 'Junior Reps' who will attend monthly meetings with the squad to share their thoughts and ideas.  We expect there will be lots of interest so reps will be chosen at random from those who put themselves forward.

Pupil Leadership Groups

On Monday we will start the 'poll and match' selection process which is used to help match the children to their preferred option of pupil leadership group.

All children P4-7 in school will be part of a group which will be focused on leading change or improvement to some aspect of our school environment, the way we work or our community.  These groups have been kept small in size (will be of around 10 pupils from P4-7 ) to ensure all group members have a meaningful role and can be heard.   The point of these groups is to build leadership skills and support the children to feel  genuinely 'in charge' of aspects of their school life.

Half the pupils from each P4-7 classes will attend a leadership group this term, and the other half will attend after the Easter break.   We look forward to seeing what ideas the children come up with and whether they can bring the changes to life!

Group themes this term include:

Health

Charity/Community

Mental Wellbeing

Escape Room Fun

A huge well done to our House Team Leaders who put on our first ever Ashley Road Escape Room house event for P3-7 pupils this week.  The team made up a whole range of clues and puzzles for the house groups to solve, and even managed to differentiate their clues perfectly to make the activity accessible to the different year groups, not an easy task!

New Library Books!

The Scottish Book Trust reached out to the Council with the offer of free books for schools. The city received just under 6,500 books to share across the schools in Aberdeen. There are a range of books for all ages and we received 3 boxes full of them.

These will shortly be going in the library, with some going into P1 and P2 as well.

I wonder which ones will become favourites with the children?

Exciting New Nursery Play Equipment!

As part of our ELC Improvement Plan for this year we had a focus on developing the amount o physical activities offered throughout the day, including active and outdoor play.  We looked at the garden area outside the nursery as a staff and also monitored the types of activities the children liked doing. Many liked to take part in physical activities but the range of resources for this was limited. We have now purchased lots of exciting resources that will promote fun through physical play and the children now have their own nursery "gym" area!

The children also have a weekly session in the school gym hall, planned disco times throughout the year and we will be rolling out a weekly wheelie session too!

We will also be looking at how we can develop the Tepee garden further through a range of different activities/provocations being planned with resources to support.

Internet Safety Day

Right Of The Fortnight

See attached this week's Right Of The Fortnight which has been shared in assembly/discussed in classes.

This time around we have taken an 'internet safety' focus on the right, to help children think about how to safeguard themselves and others from risks while they retain their rights.

Scot Trad P3, P4 and P5 Performances

Our P3, P4 and P5 classes have been hugely lucky to take part in a week long project with SCAT  (Scottish Culture and Traditions Youth) through which they have been learning traditional Scottish Songs and if they opted to, many have had the chance to learn to play an instrument.  Groups have been developing skills on penny whistle, clarsach or guitar and we have been so impressed with how much they have been able to pick up in such a short time!  A huge thanks to the music tutors who  worked with the children across the week and helped to pull together an informal concert this afternoon where the P3 - 5 classes performed together/to each other.   The video below shows just some of the fun that was had.  Well done everyone!.  A big thanks to Miss Smith for organising the project, which hopefully will inspire some of the children to take up an instrument!

Family P2 Ceilidh Parent Engagement Event

P2 had a great time this morning showing their families some of the skills they have been developing on a Scottish theme this term.  Their ceiliedh dances and Scottish singing were 'braw' (amazing).  The best bit was getting everyone up on their feet to join in the jig!  Lovely to see children super excited to share their learning in this way.

During the week beginning 5th February, we will be joined by music tutors from 'Youth Scottish Culture and Traditions' who will work with a range of children in P3-5 to learn a selection of Scottish songs and try some traditional Scottish instruments: the clarsach (Scottish harp), guitar and penny whistle. We look forward to  a tuneful and exciting week!

Young Journalists

Pupil Leadership

Young Journalists

We have been overwhelmed by the interest children across P4-7 have shown in being a 'Young Journalists' this session.  A grand total of 59 children have chosen to taken on the challenge and write articles in their own time to be displayed on the screen at the front entrance of the school.  It is amazing to see motivated writers sharing their skills through some fantastic articles!  The team have 'deadlines' to work to and will be keeping their eyes peeled for exciting stories/events and achievements they can write about!  See some of the first examples below.

Water Wall Fun!

Today the nursery received a brand new water wall! As part of the ELC improvement plan we have been looking at developing the outdoor environment and introducing more physical play resources. The  water wall was definitely a big hit as all the children wanted to have a go at pumping the handle to bring up the water and then to decide which route they would make the water go. There were coloured ping pong balls to add in to the pipes too! It was great to see the team work skills as the children took turns to pump the water as well as refilling the bucket after the water had run out.

School Travel Plan

One of the focuses this term is to develop our School Travel Plan.  A travel plan is a document which encourages people to travel to our school in an eco-friendly, healthy and safe way. The travel plan encourages walking and cycling as the most eco-friendly, active and safe way to travel to our school.

As part of this process we will survey all stakeholders from the pupils, parents and adults that work in the school to identify how our community travels to school and if there are any specific barriers to coming to school in an active way.  We are aware of ongoing concerns from families about traffic around the school and this will help us identify risks and create an action plan.

It would be helpful if you could complete survey to help us gather data. If any parents would like to be part of the process developing the plan please add your name to the end of the survey.

Road Safety Focus

'We have the right to cross the road safely'

Today we are having a bit of a focus on Road Safety

Fruity Friday

We have been impressed to see Benjamin, one of our House Team Leaders is following  through on one of his election promises - to reinstate 'Fruity Friday'.  We would encourage all children to have fruit as a snack on Friday (although every day can be a fruity day!).  Benjamin and his team will be checking which classes have the most fruit and in the winning class as a reward, the teacher (or a pupil) will wear some snazzy (banana themed). hear gear for the day!

Dignity

Learning For Sustainability Group

Pupil Led Dignity Assembly

This week our Learning For Sustainability Group led part of assembly on the theme of 'Dignity'.  This is a core underpinning value to the UNCRC which our 'rights holders' and 'duty bearers' reference frequently.  It was great to see so complex a conept to be delivered and discussed in such a mature way.

Improvement Squad Reps

Our P7 improvement Squad shared in assembly this week that they are seeking reps from each class throughout the school to be part of their committee, to share views/ideas that the Improvement Squad would push forward.  The squad agreed they need these reps to ensure that the views of all are represented in our improvement agenda.

Children from P1-6 will have the opportunity to volunteer, with names then been selected 'from a hat' at random.  We look forward to seeing who throws their hat in the ring!

Term 2 Assembly Week 2

Martin Luther King  Assembly Focus

On Monday this week it was Martin Luther King day, so as part of our planned cycle of awareness events, assembly this week focused on the amazing work he did in tackling discrimination and the power of the words and resilience he showed in doing so.   As ever we referenced the appropriate UNCRC articles and Global Goals which the children have become experts in.  We watched an excerpt of his 'I have a dream' speech, which received spontaneous applause from the assembly audience.  Even after all this time, his speech was clearly inspiring to our learners.

Fun in the Snow

This week the children were able to enjoy the snow in the playground at playtimes and lunchtimes. Luckily it never iced up badly like in previous years. The children got very creative with what they made, including whole cities!

RME Parent Consultation - Next Steps

A big thanks to those who were able to attend the RME parent consultation on Wednesday where we presented a draft of the newly proposed approach to this area of the curriculum.  We received a very positive response from those in attendance and feel confident that we are developing an engaging, refreshed, modern approach to this area of the curriculum which is reflective of our unique school community.

We plan to have our whole school 'Exploring Worldviews' topic during the final three weeks of this term, between the 11th and 25th of March.  If you feel you would be able to contribute by coming in to talk to classes about your own worldview/traditions/practices, please let us know by filling out  THIS FORM.  It is this type of engagement that will really bring the topic to life, so we would encourage as many families as possible to get involved, to show the broad span of religious/non religious worldviews which are represented within our school community.

Actions Awards

Actions Awards

Last week we introduced classes to the 'Actions Awards' which we will be running across school.  Each week we will secretly select one of the four categories

Movin and Groovin - How we safely move around our school.

Manners Matter - Showing that we respect and value each other through our interactions.

Don't Trash Our School - Looking after our school environment.

Lunch Like A Boss  - Being responsible and respectful in our approach to lunchtimes.

We have agreed with the children what the appropriate actions would look like for each of the categories and staff will be observing to see which class most demonstrates a 'Five Star Standard' in the chosen category.  The winning class each week will receive a 'double break'.

We look forward to seeing which will be the first class to win the award!

Regulation Stations

Following the 'Compassionate Connected Classroom' training that staff undertook last session, we agreed to spend some time this year to ensure that we have a clear and consistent approach to supporting pupils to self regulate across school, and that we would share the tool with families.  Following lots of research and consultation with staff and pupils, we have created the 'Regulation Station'.  This will be displayed in all classes throughout the school/in the playground and will be used as a tool to support learners to proactively build emotional literacy and to support self regulation when required.   The tool includes a range of visuals which provide suggestions on which feelings fit within each zone, and with suggestions to help learners regulate and return to the green zone.

Some really important messages came through our discussions with learners when developing the tool:

Smart Watches/Digital Devices

A reminder for families that we would discourage children taking expensive devices to school as a general rule.  If your child does take any type of device to school, e.g. mobile phone/smart watch, which has the capacity to either make phone calls or take photographs, these should be handed in to teachers to be stored through the school day.  Teachers hand devices back at the end of the day.

NEON Day - Be Safe, Be Seen

On January 26th, we are going to have a Neon Day. If you would like you can wear anything that is neon/fluorescent or brightly coloured If you want you can also do crazy hair.  This is optional so you can also wear casual clothes.  We are doing this to help raise awareness about road safety with all the dark nights at this time of year.

P3 Shows

Santa's On Strike

Awesome performances as expected this year by both P3 classes, ably supported by P1 and P2.  These shows really let the children display their hidden talents and shine in a whole new way.  Thanks to all the families who came along to support them,  we hope it helped you get into the Christmas spirt!

Happy Holidays

Wishing everyone a lovely break at the end if another year.  Time for us all to relax and recharge so we can return with the energy we need for the new term.  A big thanks to all families for their continued support and collaboration.

Movie Making After School Club

Mr Hardy and Miss Delworth very kindly offered to run a 'Movie Making' club after school this term.  They were very excited to plan, shoot and edit a film together with their group, who chose a Christmas theme.  They have shared the finished movie with peers across school today who were all mightily impressed with what they achieved in such a short time!

Christmas Jumper Day Fundraising

A big thanks to everyone who contributed to the fundraising on this years Christmas Jumper day.  We have been able to donate, £192.25 to Abernecesities.

RME Consultation

Save The Date Reminder

We wish to put this work out for consultation with families and pupils and will be holding a virtual meeting on Thursday the 11th of January on Teams to discuss progress to date and gather feedback.  We will share the sample materials at the beginning of the week and hope as many families as possible can attend the meeting to share their views.    A link will be shared nearer the time via Xpressions/Groupcall.

Singalong Success

A big thanks to all the families who were able to make it along on Monday to support the P4-7 classes in their annual Singalong.  It was the first 'gig' for both the P6s on their woodwind instruments and our Glee group for this year.  They both did themselves proud.

The Golden Ball

This term classes from P2-7 have been part of our 'Golden Ball' initiative, in an effort to stimulate some excitement around writing across the school.  The children have all been producing pieces of writing to submit to the writing challenge, all based on a strange object, a large golden sphere.

There has been a real buzz of ideas about where the sphere may have come from/what it might be made of/what might be inside it...!

There was great excitement this week when at long last we gathered as a whole school to announce the winners from each year group, the overall winner and for the most important part, to break open the ball!  You can see our winner John did so with great gusto and we were all excited to see the strange character that emerged!

Rehearsals Underway!

We look forward to seeing families come along for our seasonal events next week.  Rehearsals are well underway and the school has been awash with the sound of children singing for the last few weeks.  Today we also heard our P6 'orchestra' of nearly 100 playing their woodwind instruments together for the first time.  It is soo impressive to see how much they have achieved in such a short time!

We would ask that families have no more than two people attend each event to ensure that there is space for everyone.

Nursery Christmas Singalong

On Thursday we had our annual nursery festive singalong. The children sang 5 songs and did amazingly! Well done to all the children!

Groupcall Xpressions Troubleshooting

During our recent Parent Council meeting it was mentioned that some families struggle at times to get updates via the Groupcall Xpressions app.  We discussed how the system works automatically, with messages being sent via Xpressions as a first option and via email if families are not registered to the Xpressions app.  If you are happy to receive emails instead of Xpressions updates, this may be a more reliable route.  To do this, families should log out of and delete the Xpressions app.  The system should automatically then opt to send any information via the email addresses we hold on the school database (please ensure we hold current email addresses if you wish to try this option).

Christmas Jumper Day - 15th December

Next Friday, the house leaders will be hosting a Christmas Jumper Day when everyone can come into school with a Christmas jumper or in casual clothes and if you want you can bring an optional £1 donation that will go towards a secret house event next term.

If you don't wish to wear a Christmas jumper, no problem.  Feel free to 'dress down' or come in school uniform as usual!

Cost of the School Day/Financial Support

We have now added a new page to the website which outlines the schools position statement and what we will do to help minimise the Cost of the School Day for our families.

There are also links to financial supports that may be available to families and how to find out more information about them.

As always, if you need to speak to us about costs and support please do come and talk.

RME Consultation - Next Steps

This session we have been reviewing and developing our approaches to Religious and Moral Education.  We have held consultation sessions with staff and families, which have had a significant influence on the direction of travel.  We have now been able to come up with a high level framework for the refreshed programme and have begun to create some sample materials to exemplify the proposed approach.

Author Visit

James Campbell - The Funny Life Of...

This week we were very lucky to have an author visit Ashley Road to share some excitement and inspiration to our young writers, in a P1-3 and P4-7 assembly.  James Campbell is the author of the humorous 'Funny Life Of...' series of books.

The children had a fabulous time listening to his interactive stories and hearing about his journey from an enthusiastic story writer in school, to a published author as an adult.  Let's hope his story may have inspired the next generation of creative writer at Ashley Road.

A big thanks to the PTA for funding both the visit and the purchase of sets of books from 'The Funny Life...' series.  I'm sure they will be highly sought after as soon as they reach the library!

Gathimba Edwards Foundation - P7

Myles Edwards, co-founder of the Gathimba Edwards Foundation, delivered a workshop to our P7 pupils. His session provided lots of information about his charity and his career as a runner. He also discussed resilience, overcoming challenges and putting in effort to achieve success. Renad and Christina were awarded a special Gathimba-Edwards Foundation hat for asking excellent questions. We enjoyed this inspirational talk.

ACE Cards

This week at assembly, we have introduced new 'ACE' cards for each class.  As the Senior Leadership Team love to know about all the fantastic learning experiences happening in the school, but don't always get the chance to see them at the time, these cards can be sent by children and teachers throughout the school, to alert the SLT when something  ACE is happening in their room that they want to show off. The SLT can't wait to be called to classrooms to share in the learning as it happens!

Preparing For Winter - Snow Patrol!

As we reach the time of year again when the temperatures drop and snow begins to fall, we are planning ahead to try to minimise risks and reduce any impact on the children, staff and families.

During periods of snow and/or ice, given limited janitorial resources, priority is given to ensuring that there is one designated safe route into each school, including access to separate teaching annexes, and the clearing of sufficient emergency exits to enable safe evacuation of the school. Once these have been cleared, Facilities Management colleagues will then endeavour to start clearing additional routes into the school, although this will be entirely dependent on other priorities and having adequate staff capacity.

Playground Use

Due to the type of playground we have, when the snow falls, melts then freezes, we can often end up with large expanses of dangerous ice which can put the playground out of action for weeks at a time.

For the Winter 2023/24 season, arrangements have been made centrally for a 1 tonne salt bag to be delivered to each school to provide additional assistance in treating playground and carpark surfaces.  It is unlikely that the janitorial team will be able to spread grit/clear snow from the playground space, but we hope that with some community support, we may be able to keep on top of things.

Last session we had lots of wonderful parent helpers who came along on snowy mornings, (with a shovel if they had one) to help clear pathways and some playground space.  If you are able/happy to help, please come along on snowy mornings, grab a shovel (we will leave some of the main entrance of the school) and shovel away.  There is no need to 'sign up', just come along if you can.    We hugely appreciate this type of support from the community.

School Information

We would not anticipate it, but if for any reason adverse weather necessitates delayed opening or school closure, information will be sent out to families via Xpressions/Groupcall and posted centrally to Aberdeen City Website HERE.   It is really important to ensure you receive messages from school via Xpressions/Email - if you think you haven't been receiving them, please contact the school office.

Confidence and Resilience in P7

Pam Cumming, Schools Engagement Officer from the University of Aberdeen, is  working with our P7 classes to explore confidence and resilience. During our first session we discussed different positive destinations that we can access after school and what we need to work on to achieve our dream job in the future. We enjoyed exploring how we overcome challenges and how we can become more confident in our abilities.

Christmas Fair Feedback

After a successful Christmas Fair last week the PTA would now like to take some time to gather feedback on the fair in order to build on the success and find out more about what you thought about it. If you attended the fair can you please complete the feedback form through the link below:

Calendar Donations - A Big Thanks!

A big well done to Cecilia who showed this week that one person with one idea can make a difference.  Her advent calendar appeal was a massive success with more than 160 advent calendars donated for the good cause.  A huge thanks to all the families who supported this good cause by donating.

The Tutorial - Learn The Words And Moves

School Song!

Each week in assembly we start by signing out and speaking aloud our school values to keep them at the top og our minds.  We have been looking to develop a new way to round things up each week, so set some of our new 'Improvement Squad' the task of coming up with an idea and presenting it to the school.  They decided to create a short school song (with choreography) which they will start teaching in assembly this week.  They have also made a short video tutorial to help us all practise until we get the words/moves!  I never cease to be amazed by the talents of the children at Ashley Road.  Can't wait for assembly!

Advent Calendar Donations

Pupil Led Charitable Giving

One of our P5 pupils, Cecelia, would like to do her bit for children in the local community.   See a message in her own words below:

I am doing the fundraiser because Some people don’t have enough money to buy things and every time I walk past Union street and Sainsburys, I see homeless people and children and personally I think it’s super sad that some people can’t afford homes and food or things they need to survive.  That is why I’m doing The Advent Calendar Fundraiser. To give to the homeless, poor and kids and people that can’t afford anything to celebrate, enjoy and look forward to Christmas.  So let's do something kind, donate an advent calendar now!

If you wish to contribute, advent calendars can be dropped off at school  on Thursday the 30th of November.

Christmas Fair Thanks!

A big thank you to the PTA and all the many helpers that planned and ran the Christmas Fair yesterday evening. What a big success it was, and as usual was very busy!

As always we look to try new things and we had some lovely new ideas and changes to improve the fair.  There was clearly a lot of fun happening during the fair and it so lovely to see so many families coming and sharing the festive spirit. The amount of donations to the raffle was once again amazing with so many local suppliers offering a prize.

We don't have a final total of what was raised yet  but we will share this when we know.

Saint PHNX'S Happy Place Workshop

On Wednesday we were lucky to be one of only 40 schools in Scotland to have Saint PHNX in to present their 'Happy Place Workshop.'  The workshop takes inspiration from their song ‘Happy place.’ The song's powerful message, rooted in the band’s personal experience of loss and healing, serves as the driving force behind the workshop.

The workshop itself was a series of interactive activities, discussions and music which provided the children in P5 with the tools to manage anxiety, understand their emotions and promote positive mental well-being in a safe and supportive environment.

Through playing some of their music and sharing their exeprience in the music industry, the band encouraged children to express their emotions through art and music, and empower children to find their own happy place. Their key message was to inspire the children to never give up on a dream or a goal and to work hard to achieve it.

Primary 5 Sing 'Happy Place' With Saint PHNX

We ended the workshops with both classes coming together to sing Happy Place again with the band. I hope you all enjoy watching it as much as the children did taking part.

The children's final challenge is to go away with their blue feather and think about where their Happy Place is and do a piece of artwork to create a montage for Ashley Road. We will share this with the band and the best school will win a special prize!

The band even let the children know all about their new album that they have been working on and will be released next year!

Ground Force Volunteers Needed

Only one volunteer so far!

Ashley Road needs your help! Our garden is in urgent need of a little TLC to keep it in tip-top condition over winter. We are looking for volunteers to help us achieve this. Helpers are required for raking up leaves, pruning overgrown plants and disposing of garden waste. As we have no garden waste bin we also need help with disposing of leaves/other waste, therefore it would be great if our helpers could also take bags away to help us effectively recycle. We will be running our 'Ground Force' tidy up on the 7th December from 3.20pm to 4.20pm. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Please complete the form attached if you are happy to help.

Dates for Seasonal Events

Each year we have a focus on performance and presentation through the preparation of some seasonal shows, to get us all 'in the spirit' before the winter break.   Parents of each class are invited along to see the performance their child is participating in.  Below are the dates and times we hope to hold these performances for you to add to your diaries.  We will let you know if these are required to change for any reason.  The Nursery and P1-3 performances will be held in the school hall and the P4-7 singalong will be in Holburn West Church to enable the larger audience size to attend.

Interim Reports Coming Home Today

Please check school bags today for the interim report.  This report shares an update on the levels which children are working at presently.  No written comments are included on this report.   The reporting format is the same across Aberdeen City and contains some educational 'jargon', so please make good use of the attached guidance which describes what each of the levels/predictions etc mean.  Reports should reflect the conversations that were had at the end of last term during parent meetings, but if you have any queries about the information included, please get in touch.

School Attendance

An Update To Aberdeen City Council Policy

Aberdeen City Council has recently updated policies on 'Managing and Promoting School Attendance.  The purpose of this guidance is to promote good attendance and punctuality, reduce absence, including persistent absence.

• To reduce short term vulnerability caused by non-attendance at school and long-term vulnerability caused by the missed entitlement to education.

• Encourage early action to address patterns of absence by working with pupils, parents/carers, education practitioners and multi-agency professionals.

• Ensure parents/carers understand their legal responsibilities and the importance of uninterrupted attendance and punctuality at every stage of a child’s education, fulfilling UNCRC Article 28 - children and  young people have the right to education no matter who they are.

What will this mean at Ashley Road?

Above And Beyond

Club Fun

A fantastic first week of pupil run clubs, well done to all our young leaders, in particular the P4's who are having a go for the first time!

We have more on offer than even pre Covid, and are delighted to see that our children are really embracing the opportunities to lead and attend these experiences.   A huge and sincere thanks to all the parents, pupils and staff who go above and beyond to offer these opportunities to the children across our school community.

If anyone has the time/interest in offering a club experience, please get in touch via the website 'voice box' HERE.

Skills Parent Questionnaire

How Can We Help You Engage With The Skills Framework?

Our children are doing a great job of learning and using the vocabulary on our skills framework, led by our trusty skills mascots.  We have been so impressed to see the children use this language as part of daily conversation and reflections on learning.

The parent consultation survey which we carried out in June 2023,

This form is to gather information about how the skills pupils use in school are discussed, shared or featured in life beyond the school's walls.

There are nine questions in total, with the majority being multiple choice. It should take no longer than 5-8 minutes to complete.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read and complete this survey.

Interim Reports Coming Soon

Next week we will be putting out a written 'interim report' to families.  This report will come home as a paper copy and shares an update on the levels which children are working at presently.  No written comments are included on this report.   A message will be sent out on the day reports go home to let you know they will be in school bags.  Reports should reflect the conversations that were had at the end of last term during parent meetings, but if you have any queries about the information included, please get in touch.

Book Buddies

A big thanks to the 17 people who have volunteered to give up some time to help our with our proposed 'Book Buddies' scheme.  We will be working on logistics/timetabling next week and will be in touch as soon as we can!

Panto - Sleeping Beauty

A big thanks to the PTA for fully funding the visiting pantomime this week (£1700!).   If the cheers, gasps, boos, hisses and groans from the audience were anything to go by then the children really enjoyed the experience... (oh no they didn't)....

Without the support of PTA funding, we would not be able to offer this type of experience.  We really appreciate this support!

P6/7 Movie Makers Club Offer

Mr Hardy and Miss Delworth have very kindly offered to give up their own time after school on a Monday to run an after school 'Movie Makers' club.  This will run:

If your child is interested in signing up, please follow the Eventbrite link HERE.  No waiting list will be held.. The club is likely to fill up very quicky, so please don't delay!  Booking will open today (10/11/23) at 5pm.

Improvement Squad

After a really challenging selection process last week, we have identified our new 'Improvement Squad' reps from P7.  The remits of our P7 leaders will be as follows:

House Team Leaders - A real focus on house ethos events throughout the session.

Improvement Squad - Leading school self evaluation/change and improvement

We look forward to meeting with these teams to get their work underway!

New November Article of the Fortnight

Right Of The Fortnight

This weeks 'Right Of The Fortnight' is actually two rights; 2 - No Discrimination and 19 - Protection From Violence,  both of which link to an important theme which classes will be discussing next week - Anti Bullying Week.  Classes across schools will be discussing how we demonstrate our values or kindness, respect and inclusion through our behaviours in and beyond school.  We will be revisiting this theme in assemblies the following week.

Ashley Road Christmas fair raffle tickets and donation letters were sent home in school bags today. Please see below links to buy general admission tickets and to book your visit with Santa.  The Christmas fair has a limited number of tickets and usual sells out.  Visits with Santa will not be available to book on the day of the fair so please book your slot early to avoid disappointment.

As always we require lots of volunteers as well as donations to help run the fair so please take a look at the options available and consider giving us a little of your time on the 23rd November.

Aberdeen City Council Budget Consultation Phase 2

Closes 12th November

Aberdeen City Council is asking for your views on savings options for 2024/25 – and how the options might impact you if taken forward. The feedback will help shape the Budget next year and beyond. The consultation can also be completed online or at city libraries, schools, and the Customer Service Centre in Marischal College during normal opening hours.

Road Safety Focus

Following a number of 'near miss' incidents with children on their journeys to and from school, we had a focus this week on road safety, reminding children of how to keep themselves safe when travelling to and from school.  In particular we discussed:

As the weather gets worse/days get darker as we move into the winter, these lessons become even more important.  We hope that all our families can do their part when driving in the area around school, to drive slowly, park considerately and keep an eye on the road.

Pupil Led Club Sign Up

Of around 40 brilliant applications which were submitted this year, we have been able to provide staffing support/find space for around 14 clubs to run this term.  Clubs will start on the week beginning the 13th of November and will run for six weeks.  Booking places on clubs can be done via Eventbrite links on the club summary document on the school website (linked HERE).  Booking is now open and will close on Wednesday the 8th of November.  We won't be holding waiting lists for clubs this session.  We look forward to seeing how our new club leaders live up to the role!

Golden Ball - Whole School Writing Challenge

To add a bit of excitement to our lives this term, this week in assembly the children all encountered a strange object... A large golden sphere, which will become the focus for a whole school creative writing challenge.  There was a buzz of ideas about where the sphere may have come from/what it might be made of/what might be inside it...!

All children will have the opportunity to write about the sphere this term, with a winning piece identified from each year group.  One overall winner from P1-7 will have the opportunity of 'cracking' the sphere open, and keeping whatever lies inside!  We cannot wait to read all the creative ideas that the children are able to come up with!

New P7 Leadership Role

This morning we put applicants for a new P7 leadership role through their paces, asking them to carry out a timed collaborative task and presentation to demonstrate their skills, capability and commitment to the role.   We were thoroughly impressed by every one of them, and delighted to see that each of them had shown the resilience to put themselves forward for this new role following the House Team Leader elections.  We look forward to introducing the new team to the school next week.  The focus of their work will be on leading school self evaluation/change and improvement, enabling the House Team Leaders to have a real focus on house ethos events throughout the session.   Now we need to come up with a name for our new team... Any ideas?

November Article of the Fortnight

Right Of The Fortnight

Article 16 from the UNCRC

Have a glance at the 'Right Of The Fortnight' slides which are being shared and discussed across school.  The focus article is Article 16 - Peace, justice and strong institutions.

'Book Buddies' - Volunteer Request

We are looking for volunteer parents/carers/grandparents who would like to come in and be a 'book buddy' for some of our children who would benefit from short, daily opportunities to read with an adult on a 1:1 or small group basis.  All that is required is for you to listen to and support a child as they read a book provided by school.

We are hoping to run these sessions each morning from roughly 9.15-9.45am, with a range of ages of children taking part. We will start this initiative as soon as we have enough volunteers.

If you are keen to help, even one morning per week, please complete the form below to let us know of your availability.

October 2023

Pupil Led Clubs

After reviewing all the wonderful applications, Miss Smith has undertaken the tremendously complex task of identifying the successful applications and matching these up with spaces in school/days of the week/adult helpers.  She has spoken to all the successful applicants, who should now be starting to get prepared.  We shared a timetable of clubs this week in assembly, so children are starting to get excited about the clubs they would like to join.  We will share 'sign up' Eventbrite links with parent at the beginning of the new term.

Wishing You A Wonderful Holiday

At the end of a quick, but extremely busy term a big thanks to the children, families and community members for all their support in kicking off the year so well.  A particular thanks to the volunteers who supported  the P7 Dalguise trip, Bikeability and class visits out of school.  We rely on your support to provide these opportunities.  Wishing you all a fantastic October Break.

P6 Big Run Fun

Our P6 pupils had a great time this week when they attended a new ACC event 'The BIG RUN' which took place at the Sports Village.  All P6 pupils across Aberdeen City had the opportunity to  hit the running track and do their best to maintain a steady space for a full 15 minutes.  They all showed great stamina and resilience, pushing themselves to cover as much ground as possible.  The children even managed to rope in some of the teachers who enjoyed getting in on the fun!

Farewell to Mrs De Sa

After 16 years of supporting the children at Ashley Road in the school, we say a fond farewell to Mrs De Sa who will be moving back to India for a number of months.  We are so grateful for the experience, skills and knowledge she brought to the role.  A group of children performed the 'Goan Coconut Dance' to her in assembly, reminding us all of how Mrs De Sa shared some of her own culture with us during Culture Week last year.

Creative Skills In Nursery

The children in nursery have been using their Creative Curl skills to create their own 'little people.' They used their observation and imagination skills.  They were allowed to design their person in any way they wanted. What a great result. They can now be used in the little house area!

Glee 23-24

Expression Of Interest

Following the awesome success of the Glee Club last session, Mrs King, McTaggart and Young have offered to run the club again this session.  Due to staff working days/hall access the club will run on a Monday this year, at the end of the school day.  Any children in P5-7 who are interested in participating, should complete the form attached.   Please see the form for further information.  We are likely to have more interest than available spaces, so submission of this form does not guarenttee a space.

RME Consultation Thanks

A big thanks to all families who came along (or digitally) shared their views as part of our ongoing development of the Religious and Moral Education approaches we use within school.   It was wonderful to see the real interest and engagement from families with a wide range of faith/non faith backgrounds, all showing strong agreement on the core values which should be underpinning the approach - Respect, Acceptance, Kindness, linking back to the schools core values.

Those who attended the sessions will be able to attest to the fact that the ideas shared have had a genuine impact on the direction of travel, leading to a restructuring of the high level themes within the proposed plan.  We will now get to work within our staff team and bring some ideas back to the wider parent forum for further consultation when we reach that point.

P7Rm13 Drama Workshop

P7 Rm13 had a fab time taking part in a drama conference at the University of Aberdeen this week.  They had the opportunity to take part in two different themed creative workshops, developing skills and having fun.  Thanks to the University for inviting us to take part!

Clothing Repair Sessions

Ros who supported our P5s  to learn lots during their 'fast fashion' topic last term will be supporting a session in the library this week, free, where families can bring along clothes that need to be repaired and get advise, help and tuition:

It's an introduction to the new Lend and Mend hub too - Scotland’s first dedicated facilities in public libraries, which allow free access to equipment (e.g. sewing machines) to repair, reuse, and upcycle everyday items.

To find out more about the Lend and Mend hubs, go to:

New Depute Head Teacher

Nicola Smith

Miss Smith is delighted to return to Ashley Road, having worked here briefly in 2019.   Most recently, she has enjoyed working as Depute Head Teacher at Arduthie School in Stonehaven and, prior to that, taught in Aberdeen City for ten years.

Miss Smith loves music, and particularly enjoys playing the piano and singing.  She also loves languages, books and creative writing.

She is really looking forward to getting to know all the children, families and staff at Ashley Road.

Welcome Back

Harper The Hare

Created be P6 last session, Harper The Hare has finally returned to Ashley Road having been part of the CLAN sculpture trail over the summer.  Harper has been on display in the CLAN shop up in Rosemount and will now be displayed in pride of place at the front entrance of the school.  The way the children chose to paint Harper really reflects the rich, diverse cultural mix within our school and hopefully shows this is something we value.

P3 Football Club

Can You Help?

Some keen P3 parents are looking to set up a football club for the year group, with support from Active Schools.  This type of club already runs for many of the senior year groups.   If you have any interest in helping out, please contact the school and we will pass on your information.  Helpers will be required to complete a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check in line with Aberdeen City Council safeguarding processes.

Updated Article of the Fortnight

Right Of The Fortnight

Please have a look at the slides shared with the children to prompt discussion on our right of the fortnight.

World Space Week

A Rights Based Conversation

As part of 'national space week', this week in assembly we explored themes of gender and race equality,  looking into the history of these themes at the time of the 'space race'.  We were able to recognise the valuable contributions made by the likes of Katherine Johnstone, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson which were sadly not recognised at the time.  The children were inspired by how these women worked hard to prove their capability and challenge the preconceptions that existed.

P7 Dalguise Adventure

Many of our P7s have had a fantastic time this week at Dalguise for a week of outdoor adventures, building courage, independence and resilience.  We look forward to welcoming them back to school next week to hear all about their adventures!  A HUGE thanks to the staff and parent helpers who give up their week to enable this type of experience to happen for our pupils,  it is no small ask.  It is these, 'above and beyond' moments provided by school staff which provide memories which will last a lifetime.  Good luck to all the families as they unpack suitcases when they return home!

House Team Leader Elections

We were so impressed to see our candidates for House Team Leader deliver their speeches to P3-7 last week.  The speeches were inspiring, the delivery impeccable and the ideas certainly caused a buzz amongst their audience.  Above all, the group demonstrated real courage and resilience, being able to take a risk and stand and present to around 350 peers, a task which would frighten many fully grown adults!  We look forward to sharing the result with everyone at assembly next week.

Well done to all!

Recruiting Young Leaders!

P3-7 Young Journalist Team

We are open to new applications for our team of 'Young Journalists' who will create content about the news around our school community, to be displayed on this screen at the school office (and add articles here to the school news feed) to keep us all up to date on what is going on around the school community!

To Apply:

Translator/Tour Guide Team

Last session we introduced a new leadership role in school with our 'translator/tour guide' team, who took the important role of welcoming new families to our school.  We have encouraged as many of our bilingual pupils as possible to join up and share their talents,  particularly by supporting children/families new to the school who have little English on arrival.

So if you speak a second language fluently and would be interested in a leadership role in school, helping to translate for new families - Mr Middleton/Rae or Miss Blair would love to hear from you as soon as possible!

Pupil Led Club Applications

To Start After The October Break

This year we will again run two six week blocks of pupil led lunchtime clubs.  Block 1 will run between October - December and Block 2 will run around January - February.

If any children from P4-7 wish to run a club during either block, they should apply via the form attached, providing all the information requested.  This helps us see which groups have really thought through their ideas and planned out

We have seen brilliant success and skill development come through running clubs and know there are many exited P4s, looking to take on the opportunity for the first time!

Applications should be completed by Friday the 6th of October using the form attached.

A'baaa'solutely Lovely Visitors

P4 were delighted to welcome some four legged friends back to school this year with another visit from the 'Countryside Classroom on Wheels'.  This is which is a purpose built, bio secure trailer designed to bring livestock, crop and feed samples to the school playground with the aim of introducing pupils to farming, food production and the countryside and raising awareness of the kinds of animals and crops raised on Scottish farms.  The children enjoyed having the opportunity bring some of their learning to life, and above all loved meeting two lovely sheep.

P7 Bikeability

Primary 7 are enjoying Bikeability sessions where they are learning to safely ride on the road.  A big thank you to all our parents who are supporting Bikeability this year.

Disco Dancing

A big thanks to the PTA for a fantastic disco at the end of last week.  Lots of running around, dancing (and whistle blowing) was had by all.  We are awaiting a total for the funds raised from the event, but will share in due course.

Uniform Swap Shop

To support families to manage the cost of the school day, we had set up a 'swap shop' rail in the school dining hall.  This preloved uniform, in a range of different sizes is free to a good home, just 'grab and go'.

We know that due to school security before, during and after school accessing the rail may be a challenge,  so please let the office know if you would like to pop in and see what is available.  Children are also welcome to take items from the rail through the school day too. (Just please don't take the hangers).

If you have any old uniform that you no longer require, please hand it into the school office (washed ideally) and we can add it to the rail when there is space.

Our Diverse World (RME) Consultation

Following the parent consultation at the end of last session, we saw broad agreement from most families in support of the proposed refreshed approach to Religious and Moral Education at Ashley Road, though a focused whole school theme approach on  'Our Diverse World'.   The survey also indicated that there are a wide range of incongruent views on the matter across our school community.  We wish to continue to work with all interested parties as we develop our approach this year, to ensure that this process is transparent and the final product is representative of the views across our unique school community.  We will be holding two consultation events in school, one during the school day and the other in the evening on Wednesday the 4th of October.  Everyone is welcome, so please come along if you are able.

'Our Diverse World' Development Consultation

Wednesday 4th October

During the school day - 9:30 - 10:15

Evening - 6:00 - 6:45

Open Afternoon Thanks

A big thanks to everyone who was able to make it along to the Open Afternoons this week.  We hope you enjoyed visiting your child's classroom, and found a suitably challenging maths problem to have a go at in the dining hall.

A quick question on the 'voice boxes' as parents left showed us that the event helped families to become a bit more about the UNCRC and children's rights, which was the focus of class activities on the day.  Parent/teacher appointments will be your next opportunity to pop into school, and will take place in the last week of this term.  Further information on the dates/how to book appointments will come out in due course.

Article of the Fortnight

Rights Focus - Right Of The Fortnight

UNCRC Article 28 Access To Education

To help prompt discussion across the school on the UNCRC rights, we are reintroducing the 'right of the fortnight'.  This fortnight we will be exploring Article 28 - Access To Education.  Classes will be using images to prompt children and staff to reflect on their awareness and actions in relation to these rights as the 'rights holders' (the children) and the 'duty bearers' (the adults).

In assembly we have been looking at how children's access to and experience of education around the world differs, encouraging children to reflect on the value which they gain from their time in education.

Our Learning and Teaching Strategy

Enhancing Approaches To Autonomy

As part of our ongoing self evaluation and improvement processes in school, we are taking time this session to refocus on core aspects of our learning and teaching strategy, building awareness and skills across our staff team, but also inviting the children in on the conversation.  This term we are focusing on one of the four core themes, Autonomy  (the others being Challenge, Engagement and Feedback).

Staff will be planning with their classes, how they can build routines and skills, which enable children to take increased ownership and independence within their learning, (in age/stage appropriate ways).

Are there ways in which you could build in opportunities for independence/ initiative /personal responsibility at home to support this work?

Grammar & Harlaw P1 Boccia Festival 2023.pdf

P1 Boccia Festival

See attached flyer for a P1 Boccia festival which will be taking place at Aberdeen Grammar on Tuesday the 12th of September.  Boccia is a fantastic accessible sport which is lots of fun.  We received out Boccia kit from the Active Schools team this week, so long forward to classes having a go in their PE lessons in the coming weeks.  For more information on what Boccia is, have a look at the video linked below.

Reminder for P2-7 Open Afternoons Next Week

A reminder that we will be holding our informal 'open afternoons' next week.  See below for times you can come along.  This is slightly different for some families (Rm5 and Rm10).  If this includes you, you will have received a Groupcall message with further information.

This year activities across classes will focus on Children's Rights - The United Nations Charter For The Rights Of The Child.

With Maths Week on the horizon, we will also be setting up a range of maths problem solving activities in the dining hall on these afternoons, spanning Early - Third Levels.  Once you have visited the class, you and your child could pop down and have a go!

The classrooms will be very busy, so we ask that families to attend on the following dates to ensure classrooms are less overcrowded.

No more than two adults per child.

These visits are only for P2-7 only  as it could be a bit overwhelming for P1's at this point in the year.

ParentsCarers - RAAC in Schools - schools not affected.pdf

School Building Safety

Families will likely have seen media coverage recently regarding convers about RAAC concrete in some school buildings.  Please see attached letter from Shona Milne, (Chief Education Officer) which confirms that  inspections have been carried out across the school estate, and that our school is not affected by RAAC.

Young Writers Awards

We are delighted to celebrate the achievement of a group of P5 pupils, who submitted their writing to the 'Young Writers' competition last session, with writing on the theme of 'The Diary Of A...'.  Their fabulous writing really impressed the judges and they now have the opportunity to have their work published if their families wish.  We will purchase some copies of the book to be added to our gradually developing 'Our Authors' shelf in the school library.

August 2023

Class Photos - See Seesaw

We took informal 'beginning of the year' class photos today, which will be shared with families via a link sent through Seesaw to each class.  It is impressive how more 'grown up' everyone looks in their new year groups.  Links will be sent out later today/at the beginning of next week for families to view/download the photos.

Professional  individual and family group photos will be taken later in the school session.

Welcome Mrs Reece

We were delighted to welcome Mrs Reece, our new Active Schools Assistant to school this week.  She will be working with us each week across the year on a Wednesday, with groups of pupils, focusing on confidence and skill building.  We have been able to fund her work through the Pupil Equity Fund.   We hope to see a great impact from this addition to our school team and support offer.

P2-7 Open Afternoons 11th and 12th September

Every year we hold an informal 'open afternoon' early in the session, to give families the opportunity to come into the school building, meet the teachers, see their child's new classroom and perhaps take part in an activity with their child.  This is an informal 'drop in' situation and not a presentation of any kind.

This year activities across classes will focus on Children's Rights - The United Nations Charter For The Rights Of The Child.  This is something we do lots of work on as a school, and we hope to support families to understand why this work is important to what we do.

The classrooms will be very busy, so we ask that families to attend on the following dates to ensure classrooms are less overcrowded.

No more than two adults per child.

These visits are only for P2-7 only  as it could be a bit overwhelming for P1's at this point in the year.

Farewell.mp4

Farewell to Mrs Smith

We say farewell to Mrs Smith, one of our Pupil Support Assistants today ater 18 years working at Ashley Road.  She has been a hugely skilled and valued member of the team at Ashley Road throughout her time at the school.  We will all be sad to see her go.  The children presented their thanks and best wishes today in assembly, with some drawings and messages as well as a short video, using the song 'So Long Farewell'.  The song is attached here but is not open to the public, so will require that you log in with your child's Google Account if you wish to view it.

We wish Mrs Smith the very best as she moves on to new adventures, but know she will keep in touch.

SLT Contact - Not Seesaw

If at any point parents wish to get in touch with a member of the Senior Learning Team, this should be done by contacting the office by:

Phone: 01224 588732

Email: ashleyroad@aberdeencity.gov.uk

We ask that parents do not use Seesaw to contact members of the SLT as this platform is not regularly checked and there is a risk that messages may be missed.

The Allotment Market Stall @ Ashley Road

Introducing a new partnership for Ashley Road, 'The Allotment Market Stall'.  Which will be running from the shelter in the school playground on Monday at 3:15 pm for five weeks from the 28th of August.  Come along and buy some of the freshest produce available in Aberdeen!

What is TAMS:

We take the extra grown produce from local allotment holders and sell them to you.  This gives the allotment holders some extra cash to keep growing and gives you access to homegrown local sourced food.  It’s not only sustainably environmentally friendly, but it’s also extremely healthy not to mention tasty.

TAMS have a network of local allotment growers big and small who enjoy growing produce.  When the food is in season often they have much more than they can consume and TAMS take that produce and sell it directly to the community.  TAMS are a not for profit organisations and all money made is either given back to the growers to keep up the good work or to help run our market stalls.

This session we have planned out some of the awareness events/whole school learning focus blocks which we will explore in assemblies, in class and through shared activities.  We hope that by sharing this now, any families who have particular skills, interests or connections which may help us to bring these learning themes to life, will be able to offer their support!  If you feel you may be able to support us in any way, please give us an 'offer' via the Voice Box form.  We would love to hear from you!

'Our Diverse World'  New Approaches to Religious and Moral Education - Parent Consultation Group

To ensure that Religious and Moral Education receives a suitable focus within our curriculum, and that our approaches reflect and celebrate the diversity across our school community, we are proposing a new refreshed approach to how we deliver RME at Ashley Road.  Our aim will be for our RME pathway to be shared in the same transparent way as our existing RSHP progression, with all planning documents and resources shared online, to enable families to understand the themes being covered and the approaches used.  To ensure we develop an approach which both meets the expected educational outcomes and reflects the views within out unique community, we hope to form a parental consultation group, who will help guide the development of new structures this session.  If you wish to participate in this group, please complete the form attached by Friday the 1st September/

Families who volunteered to participate in this working group when completing the Parent Consultation Survey in June will have received a Groupcall directly.

School Safety Routines

Welcome Back

We are delighted to welcome families back to school for the new academic session.  We have lots of exciting plans on the agenda already and look forward to hearing and bringing to life the creative ideas of our aspirational young people.   We have welcomed around 30 new nursery children, 50 new P1s and around 25 new pupils to our P2-7 classes this week and look forward to getting to know them all.
