String Ensemble

Brief description of CCA activities and prerequisite(s), if any:

The String Ensemble is a niche group that provides opportunities for members to pursue their passion for music, through playing string instruments like the violin, viola, cello and double bass.

In addition to honing their music and performance skills through their participation in the biennial Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation, the Ensemble hopes to spread their love of music to a wider audience. This is done through an annual concert, often in collaboration with other music CCA groups like the Piano Ensemble and Harmonica Band in the college. The Ensemble has an eclectic repertoire that goes beyond the confines of classical music to include familiar tunes like Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" and hits from "The Greatest Showman".

Every year, the Ensemble also seeks out other platforms to perform, such as at the opening of the Singapore Model Cabinet conference at VJC, or at external events like the Marine Parade Lunar New year Dinner in 2018 and Marine Parade Town Carnival in 2019.

Most of our members come with prior experience but if you have at least Grade 5 in Music Theory or Grade 5 in any instrument, and are keen to pick up a new skill, do come for our auditions held at the beginning of the year. School instruments are also available for loan.
