Writers' Circle

Brief description of CCA activities and prerequisite(s), if any:

With the aim of uniting those with a passion for reading and writing, Writers’ Circle is a closely-knit community that consists of aspiring writers with a love for poetry, prose, drama, journalism and opinion pieces. The members share a mutual love for the written word and have engaging discussions that facilitate the exchange of ideas regarding written pieces. 

Our team comprises two sections - one dedicated to Creative Writing and the other to Journalistic Pursuits (VPress). 

Throughout the year, our members gather on a Monday morning to share our writing and discuss the hottest topics. With our sudden bursts of laughter and incessant lame jokes, Writers’ Circle is a CCA full of life and fun. VPress also publishes member opinion pieces and covers College events. During our annual performance, Glossolalia, we showcase the written works produced and published by our members. It’s an evening when we take a leap of courage to read out poetry, act out short plays and narrate short stories that we have written. 

At Writers’ Circle, we attend writing workshops and visit publishing houses to hone our creative writing skills and expose ourselves to the world of publishing. Past collaborations include (a) All In! Young Writers Festival, during which our creative writers get to publish their works, and our journalists get to cover the event and conduct interviews;  (b) writing clubs in other JCs to organise trainings and events together! This year, we are hosting our inaugural inter-school writing competition, "What Are Your Words Worth?"
