Recording with Chromebooks

Below are tips and How-To's when dealing with recording from a Chromebook with Zoom.

How to Record on Zoom with a Chromebook

(You will need to have a Pro Zoom Account.)

Step 1: Record

  • On your Chromebook, start the meeting that you wish to record. (The meeting can be just you to record a lesson to be watched later, or an actual class or meeting.)

  • When you are ready, select the "Record" button on the toolbar. Tip: You can use the "Pause" button during the recording to take a break or answer questions that you don't want on the recording.

  • Press "Stop" when you are done recording. The recording file won't download until you end the meeting.

  • End the Zoom meeting when done.

Step 2: Download Recording

  • In your Zoom Account, select "Recordings" on from the left column menu. Any recordings that you have will be listed there. Note: Recordings made from a Chromebook will automatically be recorded to the Cloud. Longer videos may take several minutes to be ready to download.

  • Click on the "More" button next to the recording you need.

  • Select "Download". These files will now be downloaded to your device's downloads folder. You can setup your device so that downloads go straight to Google Drive by following the directions below.

Step 3: Delete Recording from Cloud

There is limited storage on the Zoom Cloud Pro Account. You will need to make sure that you delete recordings as soon as you get them moved to your Google Account or device. If you store too much data, you will receive a warning to delete files.

  • In the Recordings list, click on "More" next to the recording you are deleting.

  • Select "Delete" from the drop-down, then click "Yes" to confirm.

Step 4: Upload & Share

Decide how you would like to store your videos and share as needed. Google Classroom or Drive are great options! Or you might have an existing LMS to put them in.

How to Save Downloads Directly to Google Drive (on Chromebook)

  • Open Chrome on a Chromebook

  • Select the 3 dots in the upper right to open menu

  • Select "Settings" from that list (or in a new Chrome window type in chrome://settings)

  • In the left menu, click on "Advanced" and then "Downloads" will appear. Select "Downloads".

  • Under "Location", Click the "Change" button

  • That will open your Drive and you can select which folder you would like them to save to. Tip: Create a folder labeled "Chromebook" so that you know these are the files from that device. Or a Folder labeled "Zoom Recordings". Everything that you download on your Chromebook will now be saved here instead of the Chromebook itself.
