Having the Six Pieces of Evidence are the result of a successful reference interview. The point of the reference interview is to obtain the key aspects of the patron's information need. Purpose- why does the patron need this information? What does the patron plan to do with it? Is it for a school paper?
Deadline - when does the patron need the information? Is there a date when the information will no longer be useful to them?
Type and Amount - How much information is needed and in what format?
Who - who is the patron and how much information on the topic do they already have? Are they a novice or expert on the subject?
Where - where did the patron hear about this? On television? The radio? From a friend? From a doctor?
The Basic Question - What does the patron really want to know?
