Steven Poeschel is a second year industrial hygiene student from Warren, MI. Graduating in 2023 with a BS in Public Health Sciences & a minor in Music from the University of Michigan, he spent the next year working for U of M's department of Environment, Health, & Safety. Through developing professional connections & skills within the department, he discovered the IH program. This past summer he completed an internship at General Motors for their Global Workplace Safety team where he learned a great deal about safety program management and inter-departmental coordination. He was also able to gain more experience in the IH field through shadowing and sampling days with regional industrial hygienists. In the meantime, Steve loves attending concerts (while wearing earplugs of course,) as well as performing with many local bands of all different genres and styles.
Bryana Borders, a Detroit native, earned her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Central Michigan University in 2015. She is currently a second-year MPH student focusing on environmental sciences and industrial hygiene, building upon nine years of experience in occupational health and safety and environmental compliance. Bryana’s commitment to serving communities drives her passion for protecting workers and residents from unsafe environments. This past summer, she interned with the Michigan Department of Energy, Great Lakes, and Environment (EGLE), where she tested landfill emissions and developed a comprehensive checklist to guide EGLE inspectors in the review process for landfill test results. After graduation, Bryana plans to pursue CIH and CSP certification and aims to work at an organization that prioritizes worker and community safety. In her free time, she enjoys DJing for her imaginary basement audience and spending time with her family at local apple orchards.
Jakobi Bradford is a second-year Industrial Hygiene MPH candidate from Maryland. He graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Environmental Sciences. As an active-duty Coast Guard officer, he has developed expertise in maritime prevention operations, marine casualty investigations, pollution response, and the enforcement of civil penalties, suspensions, and revocations. Through the Coast Guard's Post Graduate Advanced Education program, Jakobi is developing the expertise to promote and enforce regulations that safeguard worker health, with a focus on controlling occupational hazards. Passionate about safety, he plans to explore the health risks and high-risk behaviors faced by the Coast Guard workforce, as well as the public in its interactions with the maritime system. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, watching football and rugby, and working out.
Kenedi Clinton is from Dallas, Texas, and holds an undergraduate degree from Sewanee: The University of the South, where she earned a B.S. in Biology and a certificate in Civic & Global Leadership. Kenedi is a second-year student pursuing her Master of Science in Industrial Hygiene, where her thesis focuses on the relationship between occupational chemical and noise exposures and cognitive status. She is passionate about global health and spent the summer in Thailand serving as a research assistant on multiple projects. Kenedi plans to apply to PhD programs this year and transition directly into doctoral training after graduation, with the goal of focusing on how environmental exposures cause disease and increase vulnerability to adverse health outcomes. Kenedi was a collegiate volleyball player and enjoys watching a variety of sports, especially football. She also appreciates staying active, traveling, watching movies, and reading nonfiction books.
Brennan Robertson is a second-year Industrial Hygiene MPH candidate at the University of Michigan. Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Coastal Environmental Science from Louisiana State University in 2024. Brennan’s interest in occupational health began with early environmental health and safety research and has grown through recent academic projects, including evaluating peak detector accuracy for personnel noise dosimeters. Over the summer of 2025, Brennan completed an APEx internship with Technical Environmental Services, Inc. (TES) in New Orleans, where he conducted industrial hygiene sampling, prepared exposure assessment reports, and supported client projects across varied worksites under the guidance of certified professionals. In addition to his field experience, Brennan has contributed to the launch and ongoing development of TES’s myIH database, assisting with technician field note reviews and report preparation. Looking ahead, he hopes to continue expanding his practical skills and deepen his understanding of the “art” of industrial hygiene through fieldwork and collaborative projects. Outside of academics, Brennan enjoys cooking and baking home dishes and looks forward to his next hike.
Niko Raptis is a second-year MPH Industrial Hygiene student from Wixom, Michigan. Niko graduated from Grand Valley State University with a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health Management, where he participated in the WMASSP student chapter and also played for the Men's Lacrosse team all four years. This past summer he interned at Technical Environmental Services (TES) doing consulting IH work. He conducted many sampling plans at various industries, gaining experience using a wide variety of IH equipment and monitors. Niko plans to move to Florida, find employment in the EHS/IH field, and obtain his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification in the future. In his free time he enjoys fishing, playing lacrosse, and hanging out with friends.
Kirsten Andrews is a second year MS Industrial Hygiene student from Carson City, Michigan. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelors in Earth and Environmental Science in 2022. After graduation, Kirsten worked at the University of Michigan as a lab technician in an isotopologue paleosciences laboratory. This summer Kirsten began working on her thesis which explores how the challenges and duties of firefighting impact mental health. She is still considering both professional and academic paths after completing her masters. In her free time, Kirsten enjoys rock climbing, hiking, camping, going for walks with her dog Oliver, playing board games, and spending time with family and friends.
Sydney Morales Badillo is a second-year Industrial Hygiene MPH candidate from San Juan, Puerto Rico. She graduated in December 2021 from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. After graduation, Sydney worked as a medical coordinator for a nonprofit organization, where she gained valuable experience in care coordination logistics and federal policy compliance. Her drive to understand how to create safer working conditions globally led her to pursue a career in industrial hygiene. Sydney is eager to expand her knowledge of industrial hygiene across various industries and is passionate about preventing workplace injuries and promoting employee well-being. She currently serves as the Vice President of UMIHSA. This summer, she worked with Eli Lilly & Company as an Industrial Hygiene intern in Indianapolis, IN. In the future, she hopes to become a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). During her downtime, you can find Sydney visiting her local record store, reading a good book, going for a run, watching motorsport competitions, or planning her next trip.
Owen Delie is a second-year Industrial Hygiene MPH candidate from Oxford, Michigan. He received a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health Management from Grand Valley State University. This summer Owen worked with the NSK Americas EHS team. While he was there, he learned about conducting ergonomic assessments, job hazard analyses, and personal noise sampling. After graduation, Owen plans to utilize his IH background to serve as both a safety professional and industrial hygienist. In addition, Owen intends to obtain his CSP to further his knowledge of worker's safety and health. In his free time, Owen enjoys fishing, hanging out with friends, and completing the daily Wordle.
