Steven Poeschel is a first year industrial hygiene student from Warren, MI. Graduating in 2023 with a BS in Public Health Sciences & a minor in Music from the University of Michigan, he spent the next year working for U of M's department of Environment, Health, & Safety. Through developing professional connections & skills within the department, he discovered the IH program & quickly focused on applying ASAP. Having been admitted, he now plans to pursue an additional certificate in Risk Science & Human Health. In the meantime, Steve loves attending concerts (while wearing earplugs of course,) as well as performing with many local bands of all different genres and styles.
Bryana Borders is a first-year industrial hygiene student born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. She received her bachelor’s in biochemistry at Central Michigan University in 2015. Currently, Bryana is a first year MPH student, with a focus in environmental sciences and industrial hygiene. She brings a wealth of experience to her studies, having dedicated 9 years to the field of occupational health and safety and environmental compliance. Bryana’s dedication to meeting the needs of community members feeds her interest in protecting workers and community members from toxic environments. She is interested in gaining more experience in sampling workplace and community environments for possible toxicants as well as assessing overall health and safety of workers and communities at large. Upon graduating she aims to receive a Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certification (Hazwoper 40) and a Graduate Safety Professional (GSP) certification. She will later pursue a certified safety professional (CSP) certification. In her spare time, Bryana likes to attend local comedy shows and visit apple orchards with her family.
Jakobi Bradford is a first-year Industrial Hygiene MPH candidate from Maryland. He graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Environmental Sciences. As an active-duty Coast Guard officer, he has developed expertise in maritime prevention operations, marine casualty investigations, pollution response, and the enforcement of civil penalties, suspensions, and revocations. Through the Coast Guard's Post Graduate Advanced Education program, Jakobi is developing the expertise to promote and enforce regulations that safeguard worker health, with a focus on controlling occupational hazards. Passionate about safety, he plans to explore the health risks and high-risk behaviors faced by the Coast Guard workforce, as well as the public in its interactions with the maritime system. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, watching football and rugby, and working out.
Kenedi Clinton is from Dallas, TX, and holds an undergraduate degree from Sewanee: The University of The South, where she earned a B.S. in Biology and a certificate in Civic & Global Leadership. Kenedi Is a first-year Master of Public Health (MPH) pursuing Industrial Hygiene. After graduating from college, Kenedi transitioned directly into graduate studies. During her undergraduate years, she had the opportunity to study abroad in Kenya, where she researched water and sanitation systems and their relationship to the high rates of diarrheal diseases. Additionally, she completed an internship in Tennessee's Appalachia region, focusing on ER overuse and exploring how organizations and the state could improve access to primary care facilities. While still defining her specific research interests, Kenedi is passionate about global health and reducing environmental hazards, particularly for vulnerable populations. Beyond academics, Kenedi was a collegiate volleyball player and enjoys a variety of sports, especially football. She also appreciates staying active, traveling, watching movies, and reading nonfiction books.
Brennan Robertson is a first-year Industrial Hygiene MPH candidate from New Orleans, Louisiana. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Coastal Environmental Science from Louisiana State University in 2024. His interest within the field stems from early environmental health and safety research, culminating in his latest research into the evaluation of peak detector accuracy for standard personnel noise dosimeters when observing impulse noise. Prior to arriving at the University of Michigan (UM), Brennan was an Associate at Technical Environmental Services, Inc. (TES) under the mentorship of his father, Chris Robertson, MSPH, CIH, and CSP. During his in-person tenure at TES, Brennan would perform site inspections and sampling across the gulf coast for hazards such as NORM, DCM, asbestos, noise, and ventilation. Brennan was involved in the launch of TES’ myIH database, a software dedicated to enabling young professionals engage in the “art” of industrial hygiene. He currently holds a remote position dedicated to the review and feedback of technician field notes on the myIH platform, and report preparation. Following graduation, he aims to return to the field to further develop his recognition and understanding of the “art” of industrial hygiene. He is eager to pursue an international internship for the summer of 2025 that would challenge his understanding and expose him to new aspects of the field. After classes, he enjoys running Ann Arbor in search of green spaces, as well as cooking and baking recipes from home. On free days, Brennan looks forward to both hiking up mountains and spelunking through caves.
Niko Raptis is a first-year MPH Industrial Hygiene student from Wixom, Michigan. Niko graduated from Grand Valley State University with a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health Management, where he participated in the WMASSP student chapter and also played for the Men's Lacrosse team all four years. Most recently, he completed an internship at CMC Steel Florida in the summer of 2023, where he assisted the Safety manager. Niko plans to obtain his Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification in the future. In his free time he enjoys fishing, playing lacrosse, and hanging out with friends.
Kirsten Andrews is a first year MS Industrial Hygiene student from Carson City, Michigan. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelors in Earth and Environmental Science in 2022. After graduation, Kirsten worked at the University of Michigan as a lab technician in an isotopologue paleosciences laboratory. Kirsten is interested in topics related to worker safety, especially with the impact chemical hazards can have on employees in the workplace. In her free time, Kirsten enjoys rock climbing, hiking, camping, going for walks with her dog Oliver, playing board games, and spending time with family and friends.
Sydney Morales Badillo is a first-year Industrial Hygiene MPH candidate from San Juan, Puerto Rico. She graduated in December 2021 from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. Following her graduation, Sydney worked as a medical coordinator for a nonprofit organization, where she gained valuable experience in care coordination logistics and federal policy compliance. However, her drive to understand how to create safer working conditions globally, especially within the clothing manufacturing industry, led her to pursue a career in industrial hygiene. Sydney is eager to expand her knowledge of industrial hygiene across various fields and industries and about the opportunity to prevent workplace injuries and promote employee well-being. In the future, she hopes to become a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). During her downtime, you can find Sydney visiting her local record store, reading a good book, watching motorsport competitions, or planning her next trip.
Owen Delie is a first-year Industrial Hygiene MPH candidate from Oxford, Michigan. He received a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health Management from Grand Valley State University. Owen recently finished an internship at LG Energy Solutions in Holland, Michigan. Owen plans to pursue a career in consulting as a practicing Industrial Hygienist. In addition, Owen intends to obtain his CSP to further his knowledge of worker's safety and health. In his free time, Owen enjoys fishing, hanging out with friends, and completing the daily Wordle.
