This year several UMIHSA students chose to spend their spring break in Lansing, Michigan to attend a 40 hour Hazwopper training course. The training gave students a chance to apply what they have learned in the industrial hygiene program to real world scenarios through several hands-on exercises. Below are few pictures from the event.

At the end of September several UMIHSA students participated in a tour of Detroit’s most toxic sites which was sponsored by the Center for Occupational Health and Safety Engineering. The tour was guided by members of Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice who provided a local prospective on the environmental concerns posed by heavy industries in Detroit.
We hosted our annual Road Rally Charitable scavenger hunt. We had several teams that braved the cold weather to compete for numerous prizes donated by local businesses.
This year we raised over $400 for 826 Michigan, a local non-profits that provides after school tutoring for local elementary school students.
Several UMIHSA students recently participated in the annual Huron River Watershed Roundup. The students braved below freezing temperatures to help collect and count Stoneflies in various locations around the Huron River Watershed. A big thanks to Cassie Roberts for taking the initiative to get UMIHSA students involved. Also, thank you to Stacy Ruszkowski for taking pictures.
