University of Michigan's Industrial Hygiene Student Association

Learn more about the Center for Occupational Health and Safety Engineering (COHSE), also known as the University of Michigan's Education and Research Center (ERC) funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

The University of Michigan Industrial Hygiene Students Association (UMIHSA; pronounced Yoo-Miss-AH) was the first graduate student chapter of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). UMIHSA is also the first student chapter of Workplace Health Without Borders (WHWB).

All Industrial Hygiene (IH) students become members of UMIHSA. The IH Core Faculty serve as advisers to UMIHSA, and meetings are held monthly. UMIHSA reviews/critiques the IH curricula; helps to recruit new students; participates in Continuing Education courses; publishes a newsletter; sponsors periodic faculty-student luncheons and guest speakers on IH practice; and most importantly, sponsors local charity events. The alumni mentorship program is also administered through UMIHSA. UMIHSA has been honored five times as the AIHA student local section of the year, most recently in 2018.
