Students brought home the first "Quick Check-In" today. This report is designed to give parents a quick look at how students are doing in Reading and Writing. Every day we use our Reading and Writing Notebooks and this is the place we practice the skills that we're learning. After being in school for two weeks now it would be expected that students have entries for, if not every day, at least 80% of the days. There should be evidence of students trying out the skills we've been learning - that's how I arrived at the numbers on the report. The actual letter grades that will appear on the report card take into account a variety of assessments, for example the Theme Tests in Reading make up a big part of the letter grade. The idea of the "Quick Check-In" report is to give parents a snapshot of where your child is in terms of expectations in Language Arts early and often so we can celebrate what's working well and work on areas of need. Please sign the form to let me know you've seen it and if you have any comments you can write them on the report, or email me.
