Our class field trip is focused on Colorado history. Museum educators will guide students through hands-on experiences in the History Colorado Center exhibits to explore different people and places of Colorado history. Exploration culminates in a timeline sequencing activity. Aligned to Colorado Academic Standards, the program features skills and concepts covered in fourth and fifth grade.
At the History Colorado Center students will:
Do 1920s homestead chores
Learn the ropes in a 1890s silver mine
Explore a giant floor map of Colorado
Play a trade game in Bent’s Fort
Put up a Plains Indian tipi
Make a LEGO brick cliff dwelling
Go for a ride in a Ford Model T
Volunteers are needed to help chaperone our field trip. If you are interested, please contact me as soon as possible as space is limited on the bus.
We plan to leave Erie Elementary as soon as possible, hopefully by 9:10 am. The program runs for approximately two hours. We will have lunch at the museum after the program. We will depart the museum immediately after lunch and return to Erie Elementary. We should arrive back at school between 1:00 and 1:30 pm.
