This past week we watched video of Martin Luther King Jr., we read about his life and times and studied many quotes from his writings and speeches. We decided to write a song based on some quotes from Dr. King and the result was called "Carry The Dream" You can watch the video we made on Friday, this was the first time we had sung the song all the way through. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsCgkOEBtjg&list=UUDovcHmkRL4w9yVYqx2wvdA Most of the lyrics were composed by the class working together with various quotes they wanted to include and fitting words around those sayings of MLK. For example we wanted to include his reference to the Declaration of Independence "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal" - this didn't sing too well, so it became "We're all created equal, we know that this is true". For the melody, I played various ideas and as a class we decided which we liked. We did a fair amount of editing and revising and if you're watching the video you can see where we were writing on the board and crossing out various ideas and modifying others. It was a great way to kick off the weekend and we have a song that we'll be able to sing for a long time.
