Revision Videos on Conduction

Hi guys,

We've gone through Sol's Conduction powerpoints and broken it down to the basics so we can understand.

These videos are designed to go over the theory and how to use the most important equations.

1. Basic concepts of conduction by Patrick Moon

This introductory video gives us a brief insight into the conduction topic and its main equations/concepts and how we get them in the first place.

3. Conduction through a Composite Wall by Matthew Stone

This video will cover conduction using both Fourier's Law and Newton's law of cooling which both affect the heat flux in different ways. The example shown is of a composite wall with differing values of k, length and different values of h which is important for the external sides of the walls.

5. An example - Heat Exchangers by Alfred Holden

This video gives a brief example of Conduction, focussing on the specific application of Heat Exchangers. It gives an insight into how we use conduction in everyday life, often without realising.

2. A walk through example for spherical objects by Sam Foster

We often must consider radial heat transfer within spherical objects. This video walks through how the different equations for heat rate, conduction resistance and temperature are derived.

4a. Conduction Through a Cylinder Part 1 by Ozan Bozkurt

In this video we will guide you through the process of deriving the equation to describe the temperature at a given radius of a cylinder, step by step clearly explaining every stage.

4b. Conduction Through a Cylinder Part 2 by Ozan Bozkurt

This video walks you through the derivation of the equations used to calculate heat flux and thermal resistance through a cylinder in the topic of conduction, step by step clearly explaining each stage.

The pdf below contains notes which accompany some of the videos quite nicely.
