Instructions:

2. Spend some time thinking about what important event or fact you learnt about when reading the text. Then, using Google Drawing, pretend you are going to create a comic about that event or fact in order to share that information with your blog readers. What would you include? Think mostly about what you would have the thought/speech bubbles say. Then, spend some time describing in words what would be drawn in each comic cell.

Walt: use our prior knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of a text and specific vocabulary.

Instructions:

1. Read the story carefully to yourself.

2. Take note of any words you are not sure of on this padlet. If you think you gain understanding of the definition while reading, or if you think you know what a definition is to a word someone else has posted, please add the definition to the padlet near the original post.

3. Be ready to discuss the text and definitions when we meet as a group.

4. In the text, we are led to believe that Harry kept in contact with Ted by sending him postcards. In the text, there is a cell that is a picture of Harry standing alone looking out at sea and the next cell has one of his mates asking, "Hey Harry, a penny for your thoughts?" If Harry was to write Ted a post card that same night, what do you think he would say?

Write Harry's letter to Ted. Remember to keep is short (4-6 sentences) because it is a postcard! Then, post it on your blog with one or two paragraphs describing the war from Harry's perspective. Be sure to include something you found interesting about the Chalk Kiwi.
