The NSTX Upgrade (NSTX-U) research program consists of several complementary mission elements:
Exploit unique Spherical Torus / Tokamak (ST) parameter regimes to advance predictive capability for ITER burning plasmas and beyond
Develop solutions to the plasma-material interface (PMI) challenge compatible with high core performance
Advance the ST as a candidate for a Fusion Nuclear Science Facility (FNSF) and Pilot Plant
