Unit 3 - The Question of God
In Unit 3, students will explore the deep history of the Judeo-Christian faith, gaining knowledge of and appreciation for the richness of belief and tradition held within the religion of Christianity - Catholicism, in particular.
Students will analyze the formation of Christianity dating back to its ancestry of Judaism, highlighted and emphasized by the stories of Abraham, Moses and the Hebrew people. Key ideas such as the alliance and covenant between God and His people will be discussed, focusing on such events as the 10 plagues, Passover, the crossing of the Red Sea in search for the Promised Land and the 10 Commandments.
The life and teachings of Jesus serve as the focal point of the unit, linking to the Old Testament and bringing to fruition all of the prophets' messages before Him, while laying the groundwork for the world's transformation Jesus introduced. Students will further discover the meaning and value of the Kingdom of God through Jesus' parables and His ultimate sacrifice for the world's salvation from sin. Additional teachings will also include how God lives and acts through His people and how we are called to share His teachings and examples in our daily lives.
