UN Presentation
You will be presenting to the United Nations about a Health and Human Development Issue.
GRASP this Project
G: Create a well researched project that explains the issue and gives current information about how that issue affects countries today.
R: You are a WHO employee who recently was transferred to headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
A: Your audience is your boss for the project, but the general assembly for the presentation.
S: You are expected to find relevant and interesting data and be able to explain the issue and challenges as well as possible solutions to the UN.
P: Create a project that outlines your argument about why your solution is a good solution and is a good solution for the UN.
S: This will be graded and evaluated based on the IB Rubric (A, B, C & D)

Grading:
This project is half of the final for the course. It is therefore worth 10% of your grade in this class. It will be evaluated using the IB rubrics, and the IB rubrics only (all 4 rubrics). Average: 8 = A (100%) 7 = A- (92%) 6 = B (87%) 5=B- (82%) 4=C (77%) 3=C- (72%) 2=D (67%) 1=D- (60%) 0=F (0%)

OPTION #1: Presentation only. Due May 16th. Present to peers. The grade will be 10% of your final in the course.
OPTION #2: Presentation AND Project. Presentation due May 16th. Project Due May 22nd. The project grade can replace your grade in the course if it is higher that your final grade.
Special IB End of Semester Grade: If your grade on this individual project (due May 22nd) is higher than your final grade in the class, the grade for this project will be used for your end of semester grade.
Final Project Clarifications (Highly Recommended)
Your job is to create a 4 minute presentation to the class that teaches something important about how Health & Development connects to the the global community. You are again presenting to the United Nations. However, for this project, you must do your research in advance and submit the project to the UN. Only properly referenced research projects are given the opportunity to present to the UN for 4 minutes. :)
Choices
You have a lot of freedom to choose, but make certain that your choice fits the criteria for this project, and does not limit your possible grade. This will be a research project and you will mostly be presenting the research you find rather than presenting you opinion. Be careful with your choice. It might not be a great strategy to choose something towards which you have strong feelings unless you are fairly certain about the research you are likely to find. I would recommend some of the following topics:

* - controversy will make research challenging

Everyone must submit the following, which will be graded as a part of the final rubric (IB Rubric B, Strand ii)

Presentation (Options #1 and #2)
EVERYONE: You will have 4 minutes to actually teach your peers about your subject. You need to present a clear argument, present the most important idea, and let us understand how the subject fits into World History. you must be able to connect your subject to the present, however it is quite likely that the present will be in developing countries. Must present the following: Description, History, Current, Challenges, Solutions.
Expectations
Read at least 3 quotes
Clearly tell us the thesis AND the most interesting fact
You must tell us clearly the most important thing we need to know about how this affects us and the world. (Conclusion?)
Teach us about your issue AND how it could affect an average person
Clearly tell us how your issue is affecting the world today
Clearly give a solution you found and tell us where you found it
Tell us from whom you found all the good information
Have all of this prepared and written out (you can combine it on your presentation, but you MUST use the image trick)
IF YOU START SAYING THINGS THAT ARE BLATANTLY INCORRECT, FALSE, OR OVERTLY OFFENSIVE YOU WILL BE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY, and your grade will reflect the lack of preparation. If you are worried, please see Mr. O in advance!!! This isn't the place for "fake news."
EXAMPLE: "AIDS is a gay disease." (This is INCORRECT, FALSE, and OVERTLY OFFENSIVE and this would not be found in any current academic journal.)
Do your research, cite properly, and this will not be an issue for you.Find multiple sources that confirm your statements!!!

Project (Option #2)
Every word must be typed and uploaded to BOTH Schoology and turnitin.com. Other than that, you may use any format you prefer for completing the project. It should be a minimum of 600 words, maximum 1750 words. Any turnitin.com similarity percentages over 14% are highly suspicious and will be rigorously pursued for plagiarism. Any found plagiarism will result in a zero for this project. There will be no second chances.
It will be graded using the IB rubrics only. If this grade is higher than your final grade for the course, then this grade will be used in place of your final grade in the course (for semester #2). Please look at the prior rubrics for ideas of what types of material need to be included in this project, and obviously, use the IB rubrics to help you decide what to include.
You are a UN employee working at the WHO. You are researching an Health or Development Issue.
Requirements:
TITLE: Issue Named, Your Class Period, Your Name, and Date Due, with a subtitle of "UN Project on Current Global Health & Development Issues"
DESCRIPTION: Describe scientifically and in layman's terms (clear and simple) the issue.
Must include description of what the development or health issue would look like to an average person
HISTORY: The history of that issue around the globe.
CURRENT: The current status of the issue in the world today.
CHALLENGES:The current challenges regarding the issue in the world today.
SOLUTION(S): Other researcher's opinions about how to fix the issue today.
Your argument needs to have as much researched data as you can find about the technology/invention/data/model related to your issue and an argument about how to begin addressing the issue. You are to assume that you know NOTHING and are not a reliable source for ANYTHING. This is not your opinion, but the best opinions you can find from around the world.

Clear thesis that is bolded and underlined
Clear headings that meet all of the requirements above
proof-read by peer and use of grammar check (zero misspellings, zero punctuation errors)
Absolutely zero use of I, we, you. (be very careful at beginning and end)
You should discover something interesting and reliable and then share it with the reader
You should present the 5Ws (and "How") for each section of the requirements - but don't let the reader know you are doing it. It is just how you define every new idea to the reader. Always. And forever. Which means don't put it in the regular order.
