Some other notes... The guidance department from the high school will be visiting with the students in social studies class on Friday 4/4 to discuss question students have about high school and the class sign up process.
We have a field trip to the Augusta State House and Maine State Museum on 4/16. We may have the opportunity to sit in on an actual legislative session!
Our end of the year field trip to Point Sebago has been scheduled for 6/12.
8th Grade Slideshow:
Historically, I have created two slideshows for the end of the year, a whole school slideshow, shown on the last day at a school-wide assembly (using pictures taken in school), and an 8th grade only slideshow.
The 8th grade-only slideshow includes a section of younger school-aged pictures. I am mostly looking for school-aged group pictures (field days, field trips, school activities, sports, first days of school...). I would also take some more recent photos (dress up dances, Halloween, etc...) to add to the middle school section! I would prefer electronic pictures but can also scan and return "old fashioned" pictures as well. These are so much fun to look through and students love "remembering" way back to when they were at MIW!!! If you are newer to the district, feel free to send in an individual photo or two or your child in their younger school years.
I have been able to create and burn individual DVDs for each 8th grade student --- and somehow have managed to keep this relatively secret year after year! I can burn these but need approximately 175 DVDs and sleeves. If anyone is willing to donate some or all of these, I would appreciate it.
Thank you very much!!!
OCTOBER
Greetings! Periodically throughout the year, I will be sending a team update to inform you of important happenings for team Kingfisher.
The first month of school has passed very quickly. Tomorrow marks the first day of October as well as the first of four days of NECAP testing. Please make sure your child is well rested and fed. Students will be testing from 7:45 until 11:15 for the next four days. We will be providing granola bars tomorrow but a snack would be appreciated for the three other days. Students will be eating lunch at 11:15 --- 45 minutes later than normal!
We are excited to announce our two Kingfisher student council representatives, Kallie Gallant and Aiden Mitchell. The speeches and voting took place today. These two will represent our team well.
Conference sign-ups have begun. Please go to the following link and follow the instructions to sign up for conferences. REMEMBER --- your child is on team Kingfisher and it is requested that students be present at their conference. If you have issues PLEASE contact me at jmorrill@msad51.org

This year, Team Kingfisher is continuing to honor students that go above and beyond expectations around the Greely Middle School core beliefs of respect, responsibility, honesty, fairness, courage, and compassion. Throughout the year, teachers and students nominate students that demonstrate these qualities. At our celebrations, we like to give these students a token of our appreciation. This year we are looking for donations of $5 to Doc's, North Yarmouth Variety, Food Stop, or Dunkin' Donuts. These are usually big hits with the kids! Thank you for any help you can provide.
Thank you! And it's been a great start to 8th grade!
