COMPOUND RESEARCH

In this project, you will work together as a team of FOUR to help other students better understand the molecule you have researched. You must present this information in the form of a poster, with color, visuals, and written information (typed). In order to receive credit, you must have a typed, MLA formatted bibliography on the back of your poster. You must work together and help to teach each other. Each person will also be responsible for contributing during an oral presentation in class.

Poster Requirements:

You will be making a 24 x 36 poster with four sections. Each section is one of the four important organic compound categories. Each member of the group is responsible for one of the sections.

You will receive four grades for this assignment

    • 50 pts = Content Grade
    • 10 pts = Group Work Grade
    • 25 pts = Creativity, Organization, Neatness Grade
    • 15 pts = Oral Presentation Grade

Each section needs to include the following:

    • Name of organic molecule type
    • Elements commonly found in compound
    • Ms. Morrill Summary
    • At least two examples of molecular formulas for your type of organic compound
    • Ex: CH4
    • At least two diagrams of molecular structure
    • Ex:
    • At least one diagram of an atom’s structures from one of the molecules (show P, N, and E for one atom in your molecule!)
    • Why they are essential to life?
    • Do certain types of cells have more of this type of molecule?

Also included on the poster:

    • Title
    • Group Members Names
    • Neat, legible, easy to read
    • Accurate and complete MLA formatted bibliography

Presentation Requirements:

    • All students vocally contribute during presentation
    • All students speak clearly, audibly
    • All information and diagrams are reported accurately

SAMPLE SET UP

Things to keep in mind…

    • Try to have a cohesive poster. Each person will be contributing their own information to the poster but it should still look like a single project. (Use similar fonts or formatting.)
    • You need a properly sourced bibliography for EVERY site you use including images.
    • Help each other… While you are doing individual work, this is a group project.

Friday:

STEP 1: Choose who will research which organic compound.

STEP 2: Use the websites provided to research your compound group.

Tuesday:

STEP 2: Use the websites provided to research your compound group.

STEP 3: Within your group, organize the research to fit on a 24 x 36 poster.

Thursday

STEP 3: Within your group, organize the research to fit on a 24 x 36 poster.

STEP 4: Within you group, prepare a 3-5 minute oral presentation --- remember all members must speak.
