Science Gallery Walk 6/16/16

In 8th grade, you were able to experience a wide range of science topics --- from Earth Chemistry to Earth in Space.

Was there something that interested you but that we didn’t have time to explore in greater depth? Maybe you wanted to:

create a layered model of Earth’s geosphere.
explore how earthquakes affect different regions.
investigate tornados and why they happen.
create and explore glaciers.
create a working Rube Goldberg machine.
investigate sound waves and how they move (and can move things!)
create a working windmill.
look at how mentos react in soda.
research space exploration.
research black holes.
investigate the science behind popular movies.

Now is your chance to choose your own topic of interest and learn something new!

Timeline

Look over Requirements Fri 6/3 Choose Topic Proposal due at end of class --- Mon 6/6

Work Day --- Tues 6/7

Work Day --- Thurs 6/9

Work Day --- Fri 6/10

Work Day --- Mon 6/13

Final Preparations --- Tues 6/14

GALLERY WALK --- Thurs 6/16

You can work in groups of 2-3.

What is required?

A written proposal for your project
- What are you going to explore?
- How are you going to explore it?
  - What resources - books, internet, scientific journals, videos, etc. - are you going to use?
  - If you are experimenting,
    - What is your hypothesis?
    - What are your materials?
    - What is your procedure?
A Tri-fold Poster- visual. Must include...
- Project title
- Question - What are you exploring?
- Background - Why did you choose this topic? What did you know prior to your research/experiment? What were you expecting to find?
- Abstract - 100 to 200 words, summarizes the paper's structure, its major topics and key points.
- Reflection - What did you learn? Did anything surprise you? Is this something you might want to incorporate into your 9th grade science fair project? What went well? What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?
- Diagrams and/or Pictures
