History of the Atomic Theory

Why is the history of the atom so important?

It is fundamental to the understanding of science that science is understood to be a process of trial and improvement and represents the best known at the time, not always the absolute truth. Understanding of atomic structure has been a developmental process over time. This is science!

Objectives:

  1. To independently research other philosophers/scientists who contributed to the modern atomic theory
  2. To individually write an essay explaining how and why the atomic theory has changed over time
  • 3: Class discussion and clarification of notes
  • 4: Complete Essay Individually --- This will be done in class but you can use any notes you have (the guided notes from Monday would be perfect!) to write this.

Atomic Theory Essay

Write a 3-5 paragraph essay discussing the atomic theory and how it has changed over time. Include specific supporting data with names and dates to highlight key changes. Explain how scientific theories, specifically the atomic theory, have evolved over time.

You may fill out the graphic organizer 1 or graphic organizer 2 ahead of time! This is your pre-write!
