Parking
Park in our spots (Green). Don't park at neighbors (Red). Don’t park in front of trash can (red) because it blocks the entrance to behind our buildings and also blocks the trash can from getting picked up. Keep guest spots open (Yellow). And also, If there are open spaces in our lot, don't just come on and park in this front area under the trees. If the lot is slammed and that's all that's left its cool to make a spot out of necessity, but only as last resort. There is also non-metered street parking available on Barnwell.
Trash
Don't park in front of trashcan. It can't be picked up if you're parked there. They come on Fridays. But we can call them for early pick up when necessary. Just submit an office request.
We only have trash service in one location on this property and that's right next to the stand alone warehouse. If it's overflowing you can't just throw trash next to it. If you do, that means future us will just have to rally and clean it up later. It will also be pretty gross since the trash has just sat outside exposed to elements and outdoor creatures. In all honesty, often times when the trashcan is overflowing it's because it's not even packed in tight (something like a big piece of cardboard isn’t broken down and taking up space). Feel free to try to move it around to free up space in it rather than throwing trash on ground or on side of building.
Staff Common Space
Please don’t put stuff in common areas. Don’t bring extra stuff from a Midtown event and put it in a common area. Or maybe a big box of old midtown stuff you had in your car and just leave it out. Go ahead and find the right place for it, or ask an office team for a place for it, or throw it away. If you do find yourself needing to leave something it is assumed you are the one who is gonna move it.
Residents, don’t leave any items on the bar, make sure to use the lockers…I think everyone has been assigned a locker.
If its later in the day or there are only a few people in the office, make sure to check around and turn off all lights and lock doors if you're the last here.
If you unlock one of the warehouses or Blanding, it is assumed that you will lock it up unless you specifically tell someone to do it
Office Games
In an effort to be helpful, in general, residents stick to playing games during lunch hour (12-1) or after hours (after 5) and not during core hours.
The reality is the residency is usually a first job after college, or perhaps a first job ever, for most residents. Consequently, their workflow is still being developed. So rather than games being a relief from the weight of responsibilities that are being carried by residents, what it can be is a distraction from the weight and responsibilities that need to be picked up by residents.
So in general, try to stick to lunch hour or after hours for playing games. There will be exceptions to this of course, but in general try to stick to this.
(i.e. an example of an exception is when a resident has a guest coming to offices to visit. feel free to be hospitable to them and engage them while they are here with playing a game.)
For Everyone: As a courtesy, make sure to always check what is going on around in the offices around before starting up a game. If people are having closed door meetings, it may not be the best time to start a noisy game.
Refrigerator
1) It has sodas/water in it. Any visitors can have a drink for free. Staff/residents are asked to put a quarter in for every drink they take.
2) It is also for staff/resident food. This fridge has a one day limit on it. It is mostly used for when people bring their lunch for the day and it needs to be refrigerated. If you leave your food in their for more than a day, I can guarantee that a picture of your food will be sent out to the staff email for a public shaming. And your stuff will be thrown away.
Coffee Station
Feel free to use this whenever you'd like. A couple of rules:
1) Clean up when you're done. (ie filter thrown away, coffee thrown out)
2) Don't leave the creamer out! Put it back in the fridge.
3) If you make a mess, clean it up!
4) If you’re a coffee addict- there is a glass bowl on top of the fridge for you to donate money to for coffee supplies.
Vacation Days
Make sure to use the online form:
Make sure to fill out this form and it goes to the supervisor for approval. Once approved it automatically goes on the Staff Calendar. If you don’t receive a notification through email that your supervisor approved it, it is your responsibility to follow up with them. Supervisors, if someone does multiple requests you need to approve each of those requests (each has a unique id in the email that needs to be approved).
Lastly, the earlier you get your request approved the better. If too many folks request time off on the same day priority goes to the people who get it approved the first (so make sure to keep an eye on if it was approved…if not you need to follow up). This is probably more specifically for Sundays and even more directed at early in the fall or around big holidays (Christmas & Easter)
Keep in mind that full time employees have 10 vacation days each year and part time employees have 5 vacation days each year.
Reception Desk
Residents man a 2-hour window to work the reception desk (Monday through Thursday).
1st Shift: 10:00 - 12:00
2nd Shift: 12:00 - 2:00
3rd Shift: 2:00 - 4:00
Reception Desk Job Description:
- Be at desk during your shift to welcome guests
- Answer Phone
- Take & Distribute Messages
Renting the Office
If someone asks you to rent the office, you should respond, "We do not offer the office to be rented. Simply because we can't reserve it since It gets used all the time for ministry and staff use." Anyone who wants to rent space for an event, please direct them to the Blanding Request Form and our Event Coordinator can work out logistics with them to rent out a space in the Blanding building.
