Staff Development Sessions
Each week we spend 30 minutes in our Monday staff meeting dedicated to this training. This is our sharpening time, it allows us to be sharper and on the same page with similar language as a team.
The topics are ones that we hold in high regard and ones we want to re-visit every 1-2 years as a team. When we revisit the training, there may be new information that we have picked up that we want to use to help train but the reality is that for many of our staff, they will already familiar with it. We think this is great, because it’s something we hold in high regard.
Whether it’s a productivity item or a theological item, we want everyone in the room to know what we are doing, why we are doing it, and why it’s the best thing for us. It’s not just course correcting (it certainly can be that) but it's if we want to be helpful to the people outside of our staff meeting, we’ve got to be able to narrate it for them. The way we do that is by us all being clear on the topic and us all have the same language to explain in similar ways.
If we don’t do this, we are in danger of disunity and a lack of understanding of what our church is doing. There is danger in being isolated to our own areas and not seeing the big picture. I want when someone comes on Sunday, anyone in this room can be as helpful to them as Adam could talking about our teaching, or Allen about our groups, or Laura about kidtown, or Jay about our music. So when the topic of music comes up, we all are able to say what we do, why we do it that way, and why it's so awesome. Our 30 minute development time, gives us the ability to narrate to others not with us in our meeting. And that’s when we are being helpful to people. Which is the ultimate goal.
So for our staff, I want you to see a topic, know exactly what’s about to be said, and love that we are staying so clear about it with our team. We want to explain it no matter if it’s the first year or the 9th year of hearing it. It raises the level of sharpness in our understanding for everyone and lets us be more effective in our job. We believe this is a valuable 30 minutes.
