NIELIT-Certificate Course

The activities of the Physics Association for the Academic year 2019- 2020 began with our final year UG students attending a Certificate course on Embedded system design using Arduino, at NIELIT (National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology), Government of India, during June – July 2019.

Yoga-Day Celebration

International Yoga day celebration was celebrated on 21st June 2019 jointly with Isha Yoga Center. Our students were trained in some of the significant yogic practices to be done on a daily basis to enhance their overall wellbeing.

SPARKS-Activities

Our Physics Association-“SPARKS” was inaugurated on 11th July 2019 by Dr.C.Venkateswaran, Professor and Head, Department of Nuclear physics, University of Madras,Guindy. He delivered a very informative lecture on the topic “Materials for Spintronics-an overview”. The students got to know about the basics of spintronics, the devices employing spintronics and their various applications. His talk motivated the students to pursue higher courses and to take up research in physics.

Enrichment Programme-Barclay’s

Our final year students (both UG and PG) attended the Barclay’s Training programme from August 25th to 27th 2019 where they had hands-on experience towards improving their employability skills.

Cherishing Mother Nature

As a green initiative - Vriksha Raksha Bandhan was celebrated in our college campus on 31st of July 2019. Around 1500 saplings were distributed free of cost to our students insisting the importance of trees and impact on our environment.

FIT-India movement –towards healthy future

On 29th August 2019, our students participated in FIT-INDIA programme, a nation-wide movement organized by the Government of India and Fitness pledge was undertaken by every one of us at the end of the programme.

Single Teacher School visit-Path for education progress

On 22 .09.2019 students went to single teacher school at Mullipakkam village, Kanchipuram. The students received us warmly and entertained us with dance and songs. Students conducted various games for the children and gave prizes for the winners. We tried to motivate those students to be regular to the school. Students distributed stationery items, tiffin boxes and some useful materials to the students. It was altogether a different experience.

Conference, Workshop attended/presented –a vital part of academic life

M.Asha, Niveditha.S, Sivapriya.P of I M.Sc physics had an opportunity to present the paper on the topic “Impact of aptitude test in placement” in the Statistical Analysis Seminar held on 17th September 2019 in our college.

The PG students participated in one day state level seminar on “Nanomaterials for energy applications in JBAS College Chennai. The UG students of physics participated in CORONA 2019 conducted at JBAS College on 18th September 2019 and bagged prize in Sci-fiction.

The pre –final year post graduate students were encouraged to participate in one day seminar on “Recent research trends in basic sciences “organised by Science City on 27th November 2019 and the students gained a broader perspective regarding science and technology. Eminent professors and scientists played a significant role in delivering inspiring lecturers in recent trends and the students were also explained about the various career opportunities available to the students pursuing science.

B. S. Abirami of II M. Sc. Physics and S Shikshaa of I M. Sc. Physics have taken part in the All India Asteroid Search Campaign 2019 (AIASC) conducted by the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC) in association with Space, Chennai. IASC is a citizen science program which provides high quality astronomical data to citizen scientists around the world. The workshop gave great insight into the world of Astrophysics and motivated the students to arduously pursue a career in Astrophysics. Our college was awarded for the momentous achievement of 23 Preliminary Discoveries of asteroids by AIASC 2019 phase 2.

Some of the pre-final year PG students participated in special lecture series on Statistical Mechanics for Materials Science on 24th November 2019 organised by University of Madras and the students were exposed towards material science aspects of statistical thermodynamics.
