A poetry anthology is a collection of selected poems, often illustrated. Students learn about many kinds of poems - couplets, free verse, haiku, acrostic, limericks, and many more. The important thing about poems, however, is that they strongly communicate a message with a few, carefully-chosen words. Once students decide which kinds of poems they enjoy writing the most, they create their anthologies. Finally, they illustrate them! Poetry anthologies typically include
VERY descriptive words,
a clear message,
a variety of different poems, and
beautiful hand-drawn pictures.
