Multi-digit Multiplication

Fourth grade goals:

• Multiply a 4-digit number by a 1-digit number.

• Multiply two 2-digit numbers.

• Illustrate and explain the calculations by using equations, arrays, and/or area models.

When students enter fourth grade:

• • Students should be have some familiarity (but not mastery) of simple multiplication facts

• Students should have some understanding of the concept of multiplication (making equal groups)
