Students need to be able to switch easily between fractions and decimal fractions.
For example, students may need to express “twenty-four hundredths” both ways, as 0.24 and as 24/100.
Students also practice expressing mixed numbers in both formats. For example, “two and eight tenths” is 2.8 as well as 2 8/10.
Finally, students also practice locating decimal fractions on a number line.
