The key to comparing decimal fractions is knowing that the further a place is to the right of the decimal, the smaller it gets. Six hundredths, or 0.06, is smaller than six tenths, or 0.6.
It is also vital that students understand that adding a zero in the hundredths place does not change the value of the decimal fraction. For example, four tenths, or 0.4, has exactly the same value as forty hundredths, or 0.40.
