Fourth grade goals:
Recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
Compare two fractions with different denominators or different numerators.
Add and subtract fractions with common denominators.
Decompose fractions in more than one way.
Add and subtract fractions with denominators 10 and 100.
Add and subtract mixed numbers with common denominators.
Multiply a fraction by a whole number.
When students enter fourth grade:
Students should have had lots of experience making fractions on number lines, fractions of sets, and fractions of shapes.
Students should be able to write simple fractions based on physical objects and pictures, and explain the role of the numerator and the denominator.
