Cannula Surgery Tips
This page details the unique steps to implant cannula into the brain and is not a catch all surgery guide .
Bone screws: Cannula surgeries do not require as many screws to implant as the drives.
Cannula should be implanted using the cannula stereotax holder, alternatively the best way to insert cannula is to glue a cap or dummy onto a stereotaxic arm then attach the cannula to the cap/dummy.
Lowering the cannula into the brain should be done slowly approximately a 1mm per minute or slower, this should be done to reduce the amount of pressure being placed on the tissue.
Acrylicing the cannula, the first step is place qwik-sil in the crainotomy, after that the first layer of acrylic should be somewhat runny to help grab onto the screws and the base of the cannula, the acrylic should be pushed up against the cannula and as much of the cannula as possible should be covered.Â
