Earth Day
The class illustrated the Water Cycle and wrote paragraphs describing the event. Thanks to Mrs. Roach for baking such delicious and realistic Earth cookies!
I-READ 2
Our students will take the second grade I-READ test in the classroom this week. This assessment involves phonics, vocabulary, readng fluency, and reading comprehension testing in an individual format. Make sure your child is well-rested and eats a healthy breakfast.
First Communion Banners
The students did an excellent job on their First Communion banners! The banners will be hung at the end of the pews to decorate the church on First Communion Day!
A Visit With Father Dan
Father Dan talked to the second graders about their weekly prayer cards that they have been collecting in preparation for First Communion. The kids told Father which card was their favorite and why it was their favorite.
First Communion Week
To prepare the students’ hearts to receive Jesus in First Communion, we will read the story of the Sunflower Parable and talk about growing toward Jesus. Students will paint sunflowers in Van Gogh style, make sunflowers from paper and seeds, and paint sunflower clay pots. They will even plant their own sunflower seeds to watch them grow toward heaven!
The children will also decorate wooden cross necklaces with colored gemstones to wear this week during school. In addition, they will participate in a meditation exercise about Jesus.
Thursday we will celebrate the Last Supper when we reenact the scripture readings, serve each other with the washing of the feet, and share a meal of bread and grape juice.
I am looking forward to sharing this special week with “our” kids!

Shaving Cream Spelling and Measuring the Room
The students had fun writing their spelling words in shaving cream last week. They also put their real-life measurement skills to the test by measuring objects in the room with tape measures, yardsticks, and rulers.
