Other points made were that they parents felt it had made an impact on their learning, helped them with their writing. They were thankful and very pleased to have been part of the pilot.
We held another informal pop-in session for Parents and Carers to come and see the Chromebooks in action. The pupils had been working on 'Fractured Fairytales'. This is where they had some instructions on a google doc of aspects of imaginative writing to consider, they then wrote their short story and shared it with the teacher who provided feedback on their docs. They were able to read them out to their class and visiting Parents and Carers and see their story on the shared screen. They enjoyed showing their Parents how the Chromebooks worked and what they had been using them for. We had a 'CSI' style Cinderella who conducted her own investigations and Goldilox who had a sing off battle with the bears!
Whilst the informal session was running we were able to ask Parents and Carers for feedback. They were all very impressed with the increased access to technology, the cost of the Chromebooks. We discussed how the pupils will be using the same accounts when they go up to the High School and will have continued access to the device, they thought this will support with transition. This was also reiterated by the Head Teacher Alda Munro. Alda felt that it would enable the pupils to feel they had 'ownership' or 'owned something already, waiting for them at the High School', something considered really helpful on their first few days.
