1. Week

Our application will load the POS data from a csv or an Excel file. With this data the application will find the customers URL and the belonging metatags in the website’s html-file.

At the end our application will create a new csv/Excel file which will provide all the original data, plus the URL and the metatags. According to the requirements there is no further categorization done by the application for now.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE THIS WEEK?

In our first week at the Santa Clara University we started with our project for Schurter Inc. The first goal was it to get in contact with our project providers, to get a first idea of what our project will exactly look like. In the first, very informative, hangout call with our contact persons from Schurter, we introduced ourselves and discussed our first steps for the Point of Sale (POS) enhancement project.

We received and analyzed the POS data on which the project is based on, to get first ideas how to solve the problem. We decided to take the rapid prototyping model to organize our project and that the whole software will be written in Java. Since we already have used JAVA in past projects, we have already some good skills and can further improve our knowledge during this project. In addition to that, Java can be used on most platforms which maximizes the range of usability. As soon as we had our fist ideas, we started to code the first prototype.

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NEXT?

For the next week we plan to write a requirements agreement for Schurter so we can make sure that both parties expect the same final product. To complete the agreement we are expecting the last requirements from Schurter.

At our first meeting with our coach (Prof. Ghiassi) we decided to create a project plan so our progress will always be visible and we can make sure that nothing will fall by the wayside and our project will be finished in due time.

As mentioned above we have already started with the prototype of our software. Our goal for the next week will be to finish them, so we can give a first presentation on how the software will work. This helps us to align our work with the expectations of Schurter so we can make sure we are working into the right direction.
