12 Days of ?

On the first day of the Word unit my computer teacher gave to me: a silly word assignment based upon a Christmas song that gets stuck in my head.

Many of you are familiar with this holiday song, but we are going to customize this into two word documents with a little research involved. Be creative; this is for you to pick something you enjoy and the sky's the limit!

Part 1: 12 Days Table

To begin this assignment you will need to think about a topic that interest you. This can be something general such as a Sport (golf) or something more specific like a band (The Talking Heads). Just make sure your selection is not too vague (like the universe) and not something soooooo specific (The Goldeneye ducks of Canada). Once you know your topic, you will select 12 objects that relate to your topic. These need to be things that have a monetary value, for example shoes or cruise to Hawaii, not love or sadness.

  • Begin your document with the standard heading (Name, Class, Grade, Trimester) and an underlined title.
  • Save your document- Last Name, First Initial 12 days Table
  • Create a Table; Click Insert > Table> Insert Table. Columns: 4, Rows: 13
  • The Top Columns Should be Labeled in this order- Day, Item, Cost, Website
  • For each Item you will need to provide the cost of the item and the website where you found that information.

Part 2: 12 Days Lyrics

Now that you have the table with your days and items for each day, the rest is going to be simple. You will now create a second Word document, and now you will be typing the lyrics. Here are the steps:

  • Open a New Blank Document and begin with a heading as always (Name, Class, Grade, Trimester).
  • Title of the Poem which is centered and underlined
  • Save your file- Last Name, First Initial, 12 Days lyrics
  • Now you are ready to begin typing your lyrics. Each verse will be its own paragraph. Be sure to add a space between each verse/ paragraph.
  • As far as size font, it should be between 10-12 depending upon the length of your song. You may select any font style you like as long as it is not difficult to read.
  • Alignment- Center.
  • If at all possible, try to keep your poem on one page (adjust the margins to narrow and it should fit).
  • Here is a tip- start with the last verse and there is a shortcut to save you a bit of time!

Below you can download finished examples to give you an idea of the finished products. Good Luck and have fun trying to get the song out of your head!
