Soon you will be immersed in the life and times of explorers who risked much in the pursuit of knowledge. In order to be prepared for our computer project, you will need to investigate different aspects of your explorer’s life and history.
A Few Helpful Research Websites:
History.com Topics (scroll down and you will see topic sections such as Explorers, Era, People etc.)

Find a map online
Open Google and search for an image that relates to your project ("Atlantic Ocean" or "Marco Polo Map")
When you find an image you want to use, click on it so that it shows the picture in a black area. Then you will want to click the Visit Page button.
When you go to the new website, look for the image you found in Google. (Note, if you cannot find, view or save the picture on your computer, then you cannot use this website and must find a new picture). Right click on the image/ picture and select "Save Image As"
A save window will open. Be sure to add your name to the document file name and on the left hand side, be sure to click and save into the Documents folder. Click Save.
Inserting your map into your worksheet
Open your worksheet in Word.
Once you save the image, they will need to copy the website URL on the website and paste it onto page #2 of your worksheet. You will also need to type the title of the website in the appropriate column/ cell.
Click so your cursor is in the large box for the map (page #1 of worksheet).
On the top menu bar, click the Insert tab then select Picture.
If you saved it properly, the picture/ image should be located in the documents folder (left side of menu). Click and select your image/map and click Insert.
Once you have clicked Insert, it should place your picture in the box. If you need to re-size the image, stretch using the corner nods/dots (this will keep the map proportional. Please make sure the map stays on page #1 of their worksheet.

Inserting WordArt
You must have the letter "S" representing start, "F" for finish and numbers "1-5" representing the stops in between. (To put the WordArt in, click on Insert> WordArt. Edit text, and move it on top of map.
Inserting Lines to Connect Points
Use the same concept to connect the points on their map.
To insert a line, go to the top toolbar Insert> Shape> Line. You have 2 choices- using a straight line or a scribble line.
Straight Line- select the straight line icon. Click at the starting point AND HOLD THE MOUSE BUTTON. While holding, drag the line to the #1 point. Let go, release the button to create the line.
Scribble Line- select the last scribble line icon. click and hold the mouse button down, and trace or free trace the route to the #1 point. Let go to create the line. This takes a little more time to do, but mimics the route of your explorer better.
To change the color- select the line, Click Picture Format at top, select the Outline and select the same color as they used for your letters.
To make the line thicker- select the line, click Picture format at top, select the Outline box and go down to the weight section and select the number/weight/ thickness you want.
