OUTLINE OF THE SELECTION PROCESS:
National Honor Society Selection Process
As NHS Advisor, I DO NOT participate in the rating of students who apply to NHS.
Once all applications are submitted, and the students have been rated by the BHS faculty, I compile the ratings using a spreadsheet outlining Character, Leadership, and Service.
Selection Criteria:
A student must be in grade 11 or 12 to be selected.
As a senior or junior they must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA to be eligible for the 2nd stage; self-nomination.
Scholastically eligible students must fill out a “nomination form” to be considered for induction. If the student nomination form is not completed and returned to the committee by the due date (3 p.m. on March 13th), the student will not be considered for induction.
All faculty members will fill out a rating scale on each of the eligible students. The rating scale is a 5 to 1 basis rating character, leadership, and service for each student.
5=excellent
4=above average
3=average
2=fair
1=poor
*Each student must achieve an average of 4.00 of all the rating scales turned in by teaching staff in order to be granted Induction status. Tabulated averages are never rounded up!
Final Tabulation and Certification:
Tabulation will be done by a 5 member faculty council
Each council member will be elected for a two year term
Principals are not members of the council
