Film Analysis is designed to develop your knowledge of film and “study film from technical aspects, including lighting, color, sound and special effects, to business aspects, including directing, producing, and ‘The Hollywood Industry’.” In this class we will view and study classics, avant-garde films, and new releases for the purpose of broadening our understanding of the history and scope of film. With this in mind, I want to emphasize that this class is not geared to viewing only popular films; rather, we will view films that should generate thoughtful questions, discussion, and debate. Cineliteracy involves understanding technical terms in film production, examining an artist’s vision, and analyzing the spectrum of techniques employed by filmmakers.
