Persuasive Speech
For the next speech in this class you must persuade the class to do something! Remember that this is NOT an informative speech, it is persuasive. Therefore your speech should focus on arguments that will make your audience believe strongly that your opinion is the right one, AND that they should take action based on it. I want you to focus on creating and presenting a quality speech with solid research and use of rhetoric. For this speech, you must cite at least TWO outside sources during your speech. In addition, you must give credit to a source every time you reference specific research material.
Ideas: Convince the class to always recycle. Persuade your audience to never buy a certain brand of clothing (if you are politically or socio-economically opposed to their business philosophy).Convince the audience to try skydiving. I have seen great speeches in the past on seemingly unexciting topics, like why everyone should eat a good breakfast, or why everyone should shower after gym class. You should avoid topics that are too controversial as you run the real risk of offending your audience instead of convincing them.
All topics must be OK’d with me.
Speech:
The speech will be worth 100 points max; you will be assessed on all the public speaking concepts we have discussed so far and the organization/structure of the speech. In addition to the organization of your speech, you must clearly and appropriately use some rhetorical devices to convince your audience. Graded on: eye contact, delivery style/effectiveness, nonverbal communication, organization; you may earn up to 3 bonus points for dressing professionally.
