Writing Assignment:
A personal narrative is a more informal writing response that focuses on a particular experience in a person's life. The details of this experience often change a person dramatically or can lead to new perspective on life. "A Hole in the Wall" was a personal narrative about the transformative power of being in Brooklyn during the 9/11 attacks. The author experiences a void in her life as she struggles to understand life in the aftermath of the terrorist attack: what is home? What is family? Who can understand this experience like other New Yorkers?
Your assignment is to write about your "hole in the wall." Think about an event in your life that has transformed who you are or how you view the world. Describe this event in detail and be sure to include how the event changed you. This event does not need to be a negative or traumatic event, but it should be a transformative event for you. If you find that the event is too personal to share, please pick a different event.
As always, the content needs to be school appropriate.
