Why might you participate in this learning?
If you are interested in getting a head start on learning about the Data Wise process. Maybe you have a friend at an Inquiry School and you’ve heard about Data Wise and its impact! This module will help with your meeting facilitation abilities and grow your capacity to effectively lead teams toward better student outcomes.
This course is designed to help you get familiar and comfortable with the Data Wise Improvement Process, a framework used to organize collaborative cycles of inquiry. Using a case study approach, you will go through each step of the process and learn strategies and tools to: build you and your team's’ assessment literacy, responsibly use data to uncover what students are struggling with, gather instructional data, and use all of your findings in order to create an action plan that measures the effectiveness of new instructional moves.
Additionally, you and your team may be:
- Already beginning to use data to drive instruction but want to learn a rigorous process for structuring cycles of inquiry
- Interested in learning how to engage in inquiry as a team while learning about new protocols and strategies for organizing and maintaining rigorous collaborative work
Who is the intended audience?
Teacher leaders (whether content or grade level) and Principals who want to see a positive impact on student growth through the use of student and teacher data (so, everybody!). You will bring the knowledge and skills gained in these sessions back to your school site and apply them in an effort to improve student data analysis and teacher response to analysis findings.

- Examine student work to identify areas of strength and a learner Centered problem

- Identify the impact of creating a culture of peer observation and consider means of examining instruction
- Practice taking low inference notes and creating a low inference classroom transcript
- Examine a low-inference classroom transcript through two lenses (DOK or Content) in order to identify a problem of practice

- Brainstorm and learn about a new instructional approach to address our learning and instructional challenges
- Create implementation indicators to monitor progress and build shared understanding of the implementation of our New instructional approach

- Draft student learning and professional practice goals for our cycle of inquiry and determine how we will measure progress on our goals
- Examine the case study action plan and ensure it aligns with quality indicators

- Examine instruction to observe for implementation indicators and determine needed adjustments to the action plan

- Practice celebrating progress through a success analysis protocol and consider next steps for a subsequent cycle of inquiry
