MATH LAUNCH (MATX-0101)
Continuing Education Class

What is MATH LAUNCH?

It is a short course offered through ACC's Continuing Education department, staffed by ACC math instructors.  Math Launch is a low cost opportunity for students to review and refresh previously learned math topics, and to reassess with the chance of improving their initial developmental math placement.  By reviewing key skills before reassessing, students may be able to improve their developmental math placement by 1 or 2 levels!

Who should take Math Launch?

Students who have placed lower than they wanted with the TSI, especially students with a TSI score less than 336 and an ABE math score of 3-4 on the original TSI or less than 936 and diagnostic level 3 on the TSI2. Students who haven't taken a math course in several years will also find this a good way to review their old math skills.  Click on the web guide below for more information about the course.

NOTE: Math Launch can only be taken once.  Data show that because of the nature of the ALEKS PPL software, which is intended to help students review and refresh on previously learned math topics, there is a limit to how much a student can increase their ALEKS PPL Assessment scores.  Most students do not improve their assessment scores in any significant way after the 3rd or 4th assessment.

In-Person Class Meetings and Online Class Meetings

Math Launch classes will be held in-person at some campuses and online during scheduled class times using Blackboard for other sections.  Students are expected to activate their ACC eID and email before classes begin, so they can check Blackboard and ACC email for important announcements from their instructor.   Students will also need a working web camera and microphone to interact with their instructor during class times and complete proctored online assessments.

How do I know my results after taking a Math Launch class?

Math Launch instructors give students a file with their results and current course eligibility based on their assessments.  If students have any questions about which course is best for them, then they can discuss it with the Math Launch Instructor.  Advisors can also see the Math Launch results for students in Degree Map comments.   To see the developmental math course(s) you are eligible to take based on your ALEKS PPL assessment score, view the following placement results file.
