Write for 10 minutes on fresh piece of paper on the following topic:
1.what is your own personal definition of discrimination? How have you been impacted by discrimination? Or, how have people treated you differently and how has that made you feel?
2. Students will read the warm up to the elbow partner. Take notes on what each other says, specifically around how they defined discrimination. Any common themes? Any differences?
3. Larger group conversation on discrimination:
What are some ways that we defined discrimination? What were some common themes that we had?
As a country, are we more or less discriminatory than we were fifty years ago? Why or why not?
How do we think discrimination has changed in 2019 vs. 1959?
In what ways has technology changed discrimination, if at all?
