  • Turned in op ed, rubric, and the first draft
  • Talked about rhetoric
  • Finished filling out study guide

Attention: If you were absent, you MUST send me an email stating that your op ed is done and re-share it with me. There must be a message in the email indicating your absence and that your op ed is complete...Bring rubric and first draft back to school on Monday.

Today we:

  • Wrote our final draft of op ed---due Friday!

Homework:

  • Op ed --complete typing and print and turn in tomorrow


Wednesday March 13

Today we:

  • Turned in LATE op-ed drafts
  • Got FINALS study guide and began working on it---see attached
  • Completed visual argument Exercise 1 and 2 (Political Cartoon)---

Homework:

  • FILL IN YOUR STUDY GUIDE AND STUDY IT!
  • If you did not turn in your first draft of the op ed, it must be given to me tomorrow before you can type---or no first draft grade. period.

  • did a round robin of others op-ed's from homework last night
  • began writing our op-eds

Today we:

  • Turned in our first draft and rubric for the op ed
  • Filled out Ethos, Pathos, Logos handout (get from me if you were absent) and we turned this in
  • Viewed visual arguments and discussed the appeals, purpose, message, audience, and strategies

Homework:

  • LATE op-ed drafts--get them in tomorrow!

Monday, March 11th- Mr. Jensen Period 4

Homework:

Find an article in the opinion section of a newspaper and answer the questions on the link as you read. Make sure you have access to the article for tomorrow's class

  • reviewed what Op-eds are
  • watched a video on opinion writing
  • read an op-ed vaping and highlighted the main components of the argument
  • Wrote a practice op-ed on a topic we find interesting or compelling
  • Remember- it's mindful Monday, remember to breath :)

Today we:

  • Got out our notes from this weekend on our issue
  • Got out our notes on rhetoric
  • Looked at the criteria for writing an op ed-styled argument
  • Began op-ed's in class (handwritten)

Write an op-ed, using your rubric, 1 full page of writing, that makes an organized and well-developed argument about a position you have on the issue you chose last Friday.

Homework:

Work on op -ed (use your rubric---see attached) and bring to class tomorrow---FIRST DRAFT DUE TOMORROW!
