Where do we take our garbage?

We keep our garbage bins outside, under the stairs. There is weekly pickup of food waste, which you should separate from your regular garbage and place in a (hopefully biodegradable) plastic bag in the green bin. There is alternating weekly pick-up of regular garbage and recyclables. The recyclables go in the large blue bin, while the regular waste that is neither food nor recyclable goes into the grey (brown?) bin. The City of Toronto has a Waste Wizard and FAQ to help you decide on what goes where.

We also have a composter where you can deposit your organic waste but you are under no obligation to use it. Please make sure to read about my composter limitations before using it.

If you have excessive garbage that cannot fit in our bin (such as when moving in or moving out) we encourage you to take it to the nearby Drop-off Depot, located at 50 Ingram Dr., off Keele St. Stuffing too much inside the bins may cause them to not empty completely because of excessive friction, so please ensure that you do not force too many items inside any bin. If you happen to have excessive garbage that you cannot take to a drop-off depot, you can purchase a tag from Canadian Tire or similar store which you can attach to your overflow in neatly packed bag right next to the main bin, or you can purchase one from us.

As a FYI, here's a videoclip showing the truck picking up the garbage:

The pick-up is currently scheduled for Friday morning.
