CasualConc 2.0 beta

I'm pleased to announce the introduction of the new version of CasualConc (2.0 beta).

This version is a completely rewritten version with various new features and has most of the features available on the old version.

Some of the new features available on this version are...

  • collocation frequency table

  • text mode

  • new keyword extraction (Mann-Whitney-U/Random Forest) (requires R)

  • visualization of frequency information (requires R)

  • and more...

To use the last two features, R, a statistical environment/application, needs to be installed on your Mac. You can download R at https://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/. R is free. When you enable R integration on CasualConc, CasualConc attempts to download necessary packages, so your Mac needs to be connected to the Internet and it may take some time depending on the connection speed.

Because this new version uses a different regular expression engine (ICU, OS X default, from Oniguruma, Ruby default), the search result might be slightly different from the older version depending on your corpus files. Also because of this switch, processing speeds are slower, but to compensate this parallel processing is introduced. So overall performance would probably the same except for the first search after the start-up. If your Mac has 4 or more cores, most of the processes should be faster. But most of the processes on File Info are probably faster because the scripts are completely rewritten.
