Beekeeper's Corner: Message from Miss Jordan

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for sending in your Box Tops for Education! Box Tops might seem small, but they pack a BIG punch in the Ed Foundation’s fundraising efforts!! I am happy to announce that the winners of the Fall Box Top Collection (and a pizza party) was Miss Brennan’s and Mrs. Oehler’s class.

Keep sending in your box tops! There will be another pizza party awarded at the end of February. Thanks for your support! Have a safe and happy Holiday season!

Miss Jordan, Principal

Nurse Practioner's Office

The nurse practitioner’s office is accepting donations of gently used children/youth sized sweatpants and shirts that are in good condition for changes of clothing that may be needed. If your child is sent home in a change of clothes from the nurse practitioner’s office, please wash and return the borrowed clothing. Thank you.

Arrival and Dismissal

At arrival time in the morning, please note that students being dropped off by a vehicle must enter the building at the side door and that vehicles/pedestrians are not permitted in the front driveway area, which is reserved for busses only at that time. Also, please do not block the driveways that are located at the access area to the school’s back parking lot during arrival/dismissal times. Thank you for your assistance.

Winter Parties

Winter Parties will be held December 20th. The parties will have only a winter theme. Please do not send in any items that were not requested by the homeroom parents or teacher. Items such as goodie/gift bags are not permitted. Please note that only homeroom parents are permitted to attend. Thank you.

Report Card and Trimesters

Valley Park School follows a trimester schedule for report cards in grades K and 1. The first trimester report card will be available January 11th through PowerSchool. Power School parent access will be disabled from the end of December until Parent Conferences end.

Please contact the main office if you do not have Internet access and wish to have a copy of the report card sent home.

The report cards for both K and 1 are standards-based and aligned with best practices and the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards for those grade levels.

Report cards will include your student’s scores for each standard. Students will receive one of two scores: “ME” for “meets expectations” - the student knows and is able to do what is expected at the time of the report card, and “NI” for “needs improvement” if the student does not know or is not able to do what is expected at the time of the report card.

As always, staff will contact parents/guardians anytime throughout the school year individually if there is a concern with student progress. Thank you!

Parent Teacher Conferences

As our first trimester is coming to an end, we are now beginning to prepare for parent conferences. Parent Teacher Conferences will be held January 9th to 11th . Please note that these dates are also Elementary Early Student Closings.

This year, parent teacher conference scheduling will be handled through an online system called Classtag.com. We are excited about how this system will streamline the parent conference schedule.

A SchoolReach call with more information will be sent to the parents next week, as well as an email invitation to join, so keep an eye out in your email!

How do I find my Child's Report Card

With the first trimester coming to an end, make sure to follow these simple steps, and you can not only view your student’s report card, but also review his or her grades throughout the year.

1.) Log into your PowerSchool account by going to www.psdnet.org, and clicking on the PowerSchool link found on the right hand side of the page.

2.) Type in your username and password. If you aren’t sure of this information for your student, please contact the main office.

3.) At this point, you will see a screen that lists your child’s positive behavior grade. You can also print a report card by clicking on the “Report Card” link on the left hand side of the page.

4.) To view current grades, click on the “Standards Grades” tab at the top of the screen. Anything with a black arrow to the left, you can click on to review more detail about the grade.

If you have any questions about this process or need us to send home a printed copy of the report card, please do not hesitate to contact the main office at 856-540-6200x7800. Thank you!
