Strain relief is widely used in electronics to avoid damage to delicate electrical connections. A strain relief clamps an electrical wire onto a structural component so that if the wire is tugged, the tension in the wire is transferred to the structure and will not be transferred to the electrical connection. Photos from http://www.pocobor.com/blog/?p=149 It is recommended that all wires soldered to motors in MAE3 have a strain relief incorporate. Below is one method where the wire is wrapped around the motor and secured. It is best to use a cable tie (provided in the Design Studio) for this purpose. |
