Many of iGGi's Research Themes involve studying the interaction of players with games and the effect of games on, e.g. health and learning.
Such research may require experiments or interaction with members of the public to study their behaviours of the way in which they interact with games. It is important that any research carried out with any living beings or that might affect the environment of living beings must receive ethics approval and follow university policy. A brief overview can be found below; specific information can be found on the University webpages.
York research students are required to complete the Research Integrity Tutorial prior to their first Supervision meeting. The RIT is located in your Yorkshare VLE module list.
Further information on research integrity and ethics policies and committees at York is available on the UoY York website . There is also the Computer Science Ethics Application Guide.
QMUL-based iGGi researchers will have to complete two mandatory university tutorials at York: Research Integrity, and Information Security Awareness. Both of these are available in the Yorkshare VLE module list.
Documents are also available with complete information on QMUL's policy on research integrity, and code of practice for research programmes.
The ethical scrutiny of research conducted by academic staff at Goldsmiths is the responsibility of the Research Ethics and Integrity Sub-Committee (REISC). REISC scrutinises ethical approval applications in order to ascertain that the research abides by both general and disciplinary principles and standards of research ethics.
Ethical approval applications related to research projects led by undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students are managed by relevant academic departments. Oversight is provided by REISC.
For more detail and links to approval forms, please visit the research governance, ethics and integrity page of the Goldsmith's website.
