Writing Reviews- Opinion/Persuasive

Our writing opinion and review unit is the next unit we study. In this unit kids are learning the difference between fact vs. opinion. Writers are beginning by getting their readers attention and stating their opinion. In opinion writing students learn to give 3 reasons as to why that is their opinion and to support it with words like: because and for example. In review writing we give 1-2 reasons with support. Writers close their opinion and review writing with restating their opinion and giving the reader a suggestion.

At this time of the year students should be using capitalization and punctuation more consistently.

Students will work with partners to help each other, ask questions, and give friendly suggestions to make revisions to their writing.

Opinion pieces and especially review writing is shorter than past writing pieces so students should be getting 2 writings complete during an independent writing time each day.
